I'm gonna sell mine and wondering about the success rate on here without a broker.

FYI, My wife can't be in direct sunlight anymore, my sons are not into boating at all, so I figured it's time to sell.

I've bought 3 of my 4 boats I've owned without using a broker. Seller had a broker on 3 of 4. If I were selling a boat I'd advertised the heck out of it on Craigslist in all local areas within 100 miles, even down towards Houma and Biloxi/Gulfport in your area.

I mentioned on here before about a broker that flat fees for like $300 and will put your boat on all the dealer websites. He is highly regarded on thehulltruth.com and has his own forum there. I know if I was selling a boat I'd use his service.

I haven't sold a boat on my own, but I bought all my property and sold them without a realtor.

I have sold 2 without th euse of a broker. I used a broker (Sea Ray dealer) for my last boat. Couldn't be bothered with tire kickers. Plus it was cheaper to have the boat at their site than me paying slip fees.

I've sold my last 2 boats myself. Both were good experiences and I believe I got the right price for both and did not have to pay any commissions. It does not hurt to give it a shot yourself before hiring a broker.

Just to clarify I didn't use this site to sell. My boat wasn't as new/big/nice as yours. Craig's list. Brings out all the folks that think you need to sell.

Sorry to hear you're having to sell. My husband has a similar issue which makes it tough, especially living in FL and liking to be on the water-:( I sold our last boat myself, have sold a couple of businesses in the past too on my own. I would have a go and see if I could sell it myself first, but if the Broker Boat Guy mentions will list for a flat fee of $300 I would do that because that's beyond reasonable. It's when they want 10% it begins to bite! Good luck:)

I am listing my parents boat here. I have had a couple inquiries on here. Lower price point items sell quickly on Craigslist. More expensive items don't get near the attraction.

Based on reports from Trade Only and Sea Ray having to roll production into other facilities a 340 is in a slow market. That coupled with banks reluctance to lend over $60k and the lingering economics issues for the demographics of the buyer you will likely want/need a broker.

Are you available to take the calls all the time?

Do you have time to waste with dreamers and tire kickers?

Do you know how to sell across state lines?

Do you know contracts and law?

Many posts on the using a broker threads treat a broker as a 0 sum game. In other words: the boat would have sold for the same amount if they didn't have to pay the broker. You should net more using the availability, expertise and convenience of a broker. If most folks didn't get a real value from a broker, brokers would all go out of business. That's a market economy of its own. It usually goes far beyond just placing a few ads.

Good luck,

MM

I've advertised here in the past. While they didn't sell because of this advertising, I can't say that it wouldn't have sold because of this advertising, either. They sold very quickly so it wouldn't be fair to say that this advertising wasn't worth it. Quite the opposite - this is a VERY large forum and while someone on this site may not be looking for the boat you are selling, they may know someone that is... networking. For $40, I don't think you can go wrong - that's very cheap advertising nowadays.

Bruce,

Sad to hear that. I sold my 340 on BoatTrader in a little over a month, but it's worth posting on here for $40....

Thanks Carter, and to EVERYONE that responded. I just got the pics we took over the weekend so I can advertise her. I think I'm going to start here and on Boattrader for now. My previous boat was sold on B.T. in about two months.
