Just wondering how many of you tow your 28' Sundancer around. I like to visit different areas and currently tow a 23' cuddy around. I slip it as well, just don't like having to stay at the same marina all season. How tough is the 28'er to tow, that is my next boat.

thanks

Many of us tow 28' and bigger. To me towing, launching and retrieving are not a big deal, having an adequate tow vehicle and trailer are. The Excursion should be fine for most 28' boats. What do you find "tough" about towing your 230?

MM

hey, Mike
I have no issues towing my 230, I enjoy towing. Just looking to move up to a 28' boat in the next couple years thats all.

Thanks

The Excursion makes a great tow vehicle. I've got a V10 4x4 and it does great towing the 270 with twins. If I'm going a longer distance I typically will wait to fuel up until I get closer - no point in hauling 100 gallons of fuel around if I don't have to. Some have experience brake issues with the Excursion but I upgraded everything front and rear and haven't had any issues. I'm running Hawk LTS brake pads front and rear with Raybestos R300 rotors up front and OEM level in the rear. There are some good threads on towing various rigs on Ford Truck Enthusiasts you may want to take a look at.

I tow my 280DA everywhere and love it. I tow with a F350 squally and no issues.

what year is the 280? I had a 89 and I thought that was too big for towing around, the newer ones are manageable...

I towed our 320 everywhere with a f350 diesel 1999 and loved it that boat was awesome with out drives it was a corvette in the water. I would only get the 320 but the excursion will not toe it

Towed my 290 all over the place. Disclaimer: It was technically over wide and required a permit.

I tow my 310. Use the right equipment and it is really pretty straight forward.

i'm currently looking for a trailer for my 290 so i have no "actual experience" towing a large boat but i have towed large my whole life. lived on a farm and towed wide equipment and super long horse trailers both bumper pull and fifth wheel. never had any problem towing wide or heavy if you know and trust your equipment and know what you are doing...tall is a very different story. my 290 sits very tall on the hydraulic trailer we had it towed home with. when i put the radar on in the spring i'm going to wait until i get to the marina, i followed the trailer home from the water a few weeks ago and watched the arch whack every tree on the way. no damage but i'm not risking the new radar :) a friend has a 15k trailer for his 2900 pursuit and said i can borrow it whenever i need it but i don't want to take him up on that unless i really have to. he pulls his to fill the tank at stop and shop with his card and saves over $200 every fill up. maybe i will borrow that trailer...

I used to tow HUGE hay trailers with an F-150 with a 351 and a heavy duty transmission. they topped at over 25,000 lbs and had a pivot front axle that would walk on corners and had no brakes. That was a challenge. we used to do it at night and winding country roads so there would be less traffic. those were interesting nights.

Our 310 tows nicely with a Ram 3500 DRW.

Makes a big truck look kinda funny though, and one has to be careful where there's road construction and all those damn cones with no one working at the construction site - those get kinda tight.

All about having the proper set-up.....tow vehicle and trailer and in many of our cases - permits.

I have a very good friend that just purchased a used 28 ft. Medallion and is currently looking to move up from a 2006 F150 5.4 to an F250 Diesel. He learned the hard way. He didn't know about Heartland soon enough either.:(

33ft trailer for the 270DA. V10 4x4 Limited Excursion. Tows like a dream, Mike

Good Trailer is the key!

Mazda b4000, it gets a little shakey at 65 mph and on corners.

As others have said, it is all about tow vehicle and the trailer (being able to stop the load). Then there are the permits if you are over width for your state. Most states are 8'6" beam, but not sure how obvious the extra 6" of beam on each side of the trailer would be.

No but I've towed a 06 320 all around the state of michigan
For a trailer of that size Call Gary at loadmaster trailer in port Clinton Ohio, they did my 5th wheel for my 320 and they do build the best trailer . Tell them Boltman sent you, they do know that name !!!!!!
