Bottom of the hull in the bilge I have a black cone-shaped cap disconnected from something on the base...

That's a plug for your transducer hole (if you remove the transducer for service, replace it with this plug).

fantastic. thanks guys - I wouldn't have figured that out :(. Any comments / thoughts on the wiring in the bilge.. anything standout as not in good order?

Just looks like a good soak in simple green and a spray is in order to get things cleaned up.

A few well placed tie wraps to bundle the wires up a bit will tidy that rats nest.

curious - which parts get removed for clean soaking? just the float switch or the pumps also? thanks for the feedback!!~

ALso - anyone try dumping a saltaway solution into the bilge during the boating season?

I believe he meant pour some simple green into the bilge, get in there with some rags and a scrub brush and start cleaning. Hose it all out and wipe things down. Should clean up nicely. Then go to work on tidying up lose wires. Make sure you are in an area where pumping the dirty water out through the bilge pumps doe not polute the environment.

I normally spray mine down with a biodegradable degreaser lets soak for a few minutes to hours..... and then hose it down and allow the bilge pumps to pump it over. If needed repeat and use a rag on any stubborn spots.

I usually dribble a little motor oil when changing filters and refilling.....so I do the above after I wipe up as much oil as I can.
