Looks like my Company will be relocating my family and I to the Atlanta area.

Just curious if anybody on CSR is from the area.

Yes there is quit a few North GA CSR members. What part of Atlanta are you looking in. The two major lakes in the area are Lanier and Allatoona.

Been here my entire life. We live closer to Allatoona and seldom go to Lanier. Lanier is a much larger lake and further from Atlanta. Lanier is still about 14 feet down but is a deep lake with plenty of water to navigate.Allatoona has been at or near full pool all season.

Both lakes are great. You'd enjoy either one.

I work for AT&T and will be officed at the Lenox Park Office (sp?). Looking atproperties in the Dunwoody area or out towards Alpharetta. We have 3 small children 6 , 3 and 17mos.

Where is the Lake Allatoona located?

Where is the Lake Allatoona located?

Allatoona Lake is northwest of Atlanta and is accessible from I-75 and I-575. You may want to check out East Cobb for housing (better tax rates/good schools) and you would be close to both GA 400 and I-75. Feel free to PM me for any info.

We have been in Park Marina in Red Top Mountain State Park for only a month now and we really like it. It's on Lake Allatoona and we have plenty of water. It would be about 20 minutes up 75 north to the lake from Lenox. Lake Lanier would be around 30 minutes up 400 north to Cumming Ga. Allatoona has about 8 marina's you can choose from depending where you want to be. I am not sure about Lanier. We have a lot of people that came to our dock from Lanier because the water level so you might really want to check that out. Good Luck. Jim

Thanks for all of the replies. I will have the realtor look into the East Cobb area as well.

Any other thoughts or tips are greatly appreciated.

We have been up on Lake Lanier at Port Royale marina for about a year and a half. Great location in mid-point of the lake. Boating on the lake is great this year, as many people are staying off the lake due to levels and price of gas. This lake is large enough even with the level being down.

I got my release date today. My wife and I will be flying out there next week to look at some properties and for my wife to finally visit. I will be officing at our Lenox Park building, but still not sure on area of town to live.

Can't wait to get out there and get on the water again!

Welcome to GA! I've been here all my life and hopefully you'll love it as much as I do. I'm currently at Lake Lanier and it's getting a little tight with launching our boat. We are down to 10 useable ramps as of today. If you are planning on using a marina, then Lanier would be ideal. If I were you and had a choice...I'd head to Alltoona for my boating pleasure.

All good advise. I have live din East Cobb 28 years and boat on Lake Lanier. East Cobb does have a great school system and taxes are good compared to other areas. I would not suggest living in Fulton County/Atlanta. You're going to have a commute where ever you live and it's a buyers market right now.

Regarding boating, I would suggest Allatoona at this point. I saw the lake this week and the water levels look better than Lanier. From East Cobb you can get to either lake in 30 minutes.

If I can be of any assistance during your visit, PM me and I will supply my cell number.

Good luck!

Welcome to GA, if you ever make it up to the Mountains (Yes GA has Mountains) drop in.
