5.7 Mercruiser with Alpha 1
I am thinking of repowering with a 5.7 motor from Michigan Motorz. I am looking at the 5.7 GM base engine or the bronze partial engine package. The base engine will bring the power to 270HP and the partial will boost it to 315. Anyone done this or used Michigan Motorz before? I will be doing most of the labor myself along with a chev heave line mechanic friend of mine (probilly cost lots of beer).

Don't know about Michigan Motorz but I repowered my last 25 with the engine sold from E Basic power.I think it was built with Indmar Marine.Came complete with Carb,Distributor and all tin and water pump.just hooked up exhaust, fuel and wiring.I think it was rated at 310 HP.really woke the boat up.think cost was around $3500.Ran it for 3 seasons before selling it with no problems.Depending on what you need the mercruiser bobtails are a good deal too.Comes with everything, even exhaust. If you shop it out,a 5.7 can be found for 5-5500 .especially now at the end of the year. Its only 250 HP though with the 2 BBL carb.

I used Michigan Motorz,( dealt with Roger) and had good luck, I put two longblock 5.7s into my 88 weekender and really had no problems.... 100 hrs later, one motor had a leaky /bad valve that was relatively easy to diagnose and repair... but the overall experience with them was excellent.

I would use them again.:smt001

My buddy did a pair in an 89 EC. That was 4 years ago and they were perfect.
Rog' is a great guy and easy to deal with.
I never had motors from them but many other odd parts.
Good luck.

I have been speaking wih Roger at Michigan Motorz and he seems like he is very helpful and has answered all my questions so far. I am thinking of going with the Silver package as I already have brand new exhaust manifolds and I like the idea of the new high rise intake and using a Holly double pumper 4V carb. They offer a choice in carbs of either the Holly or a Edelbrock performer. What would be a better carb? I am thinking the Holly any opinions?
