Any Suggestions on replacement for Northstar NS100 VHF radio

That's what I have (320, 2007). I have been looking for a replacement as well. Best fit I think is the expensive (700$?) raymarine 260 radio which is similar form factor. The only other option I have considered is a small one from west marine, but I think it was too deep, since I have a steering cable and bulkhead behind the existing hole, and it would require some type of modification to the hole (And something to cover it completely)

Thanks for all the responses. I did just that and bought the ICOM 400 BB. Raymarine 260 was more than double the price and yes, you can use the existing Northstar speaker. Raymarine had some fancier bells and whistles, but how often would you use those unless you're a commercial boat.

FYI Raymarine 260 was also on back-order, so, I'm assuming since its been around since 2013 that Raymarine is discontinuing it, so beware not to get stuck with another end of life product.

How did you connect the NS speaker to the ICOM? I haven't been able to find any wiring diagrams or pinouts for the speaker cable.

Haven't done it yet,, still trying to find the blackbox on my boat, i think its behind the flatscreen tv.
But, if you download a manual for ICOm, it shows there are speaker wires bundled with the other wires coming out of the unit. I am going to splice them in and wire it that way.

Right, the ICOM diagrams are good so that side should be easy. The NS100 is not clear to me. IIRC there are multiple wires in the cable to the speaker. Was hoping to benefit from someone else's experience!

I ordered the ICOM as well and will be working on hooking up the existing speaker wire too. I was thinking I could cross leads over a battery until I get a pop. It's pretty tight under the helm, any tips on drilling the holes for the base? PO liked to smack the antenna against bridges so I will be replacing that, though I hope to reuse the base and the antenna wire both of which appear to be in good shape.

I have been using a little handheld VHF and the day after I ordered the new VHF we ended up aiding the Coast Guard in SAR. I had heard the announcement about all nearby vessels aiding in the search, but this is the first time I was close enough to assist. Unfortunately it got da k and they did not find the drowning victim until the next day. This event punctuated my determination to push through my VHF install.

Second question, has anyone set up NESM code (I think that is the acronym) from a Navman 5500 vintage 2006? The Navman is fully functional, but I don't see reference to that output in the users manual.

Correction MMSI for DSC button.

You would need to have a DSC-enabled radio with a MMSI code programmed. Then you would need to connect the radio to the Navman via NMEA 0183 protocol connections. But in looking at a manual online, it doesn't look like the Navman supports a connection to a DSC radio. Only mentions a depth sounder, external GPS antenna, and autopilot.
