Any Sea Ray bikers out there?

I have had 3 Harley's. An 05 Road King, An 08 Screaming Eagle Ultra (110 motor), and a 2011 Street Glide (103).
IMO your wife will not enjoy being on the back of the Breakout. I did almost purchase a Heritage ST.
Now is a good time to purchase used, with all of the changes on the 2014's I was told by the dealer, pre 14's values have taken a hit.

Here's a couple shots of what I have my eye on... 130mm front & 240mm rear tires. 35 deg rake. 67.3 in wheelbase. given the huge rear tire, low profile design, wheelbase, etc what kind of ride, pros/cons, could I expect? Again, I don't expect to do much long distance cruising and its probably going to be just me kicking around town and the local countryside so I might as well look half-way good doing it, right?

Two more questions. Lets say I test ride and decide to move on the model. A local dealer has one set-up with V&H Big Radius pipes, tuner & breather mods. are the mods worth the extra $1500 or so?

I'm glad you are looking at Harley for good reasons and not just because they're "cool." I would expect nothing less from the people on this site.

oh, trust me. my kids have a way of taking anything with a coolness factor out of the equation for me. although I will admit I'm leaning heavily towards not being practical with this decision.

Practical or not HD's are good bikes. Two of my work colleagues for instance, ride early 2000's softails. The Night Train has 80,000 kms on it (+/- 50,000 miles) and it's never been in the shop. AND HE HAS NITROUS ON IT!!! The Deuce has 72,000 kms on it and has only been in the shop once for cams, under warranty, and it's got the FULL meal deal "Screamin' Eagle" package from the factory. We've got a few pre Evo 80ci bikes here too and, despite their age, they're running fine too. I kinda like the looks of the "Street Bobs" too. Again, the fellow who rides that has had no issues either and it's one of the 96's with the 6 speed. When I buy my next one I'll look for an oloder one and have it done up a bit. That way you're starting fresh with the drive train at least, and you don't need a second mortage to pay for it.

I've been riding motorcycles for over 20 years and been working on them for 15+. I love my Harley Davidson Sportster and I love my Triumph Sprint ST. A good buddy has a Triumph Speedmaster and boy is that bike a smooth ride.

If I were buying a new cruiser that I wanted room enough for my lady friend, https://www.victorymotorcycles.com/ all the way. I have had several opportunities to work on and ride Victory motorcycles and boy are they well built and wow do they ride nice.

Well built and made in America which means your uncle can't disown you!

Nice looking ride. I'm pretty sure your kids couldn't take the cool factor out of that one! I LOVE the color. Can I get a Sea Ray in that?

I went the same route you are considering several years ago. Started with a Yamaha stratoliner, a large Harley equivalent. Wife didn't like it. So traded for BMW K1200LT, a BMW version of Goldwing. Very nice, very comfortable and a blast to ride. Wife still wouldn't ride with me. And i really love my wife and want to do things with her, not things that by definition separate us. So, got a Porsche 911S convertible. That did the trick. Both of us love it..

Softail Deluxe is nice but the Heritage is so much more and less. I had the kit installed so I could remove the saddle bags and the sissy bar, the back seat or pillion pops off as well as the windshield, now its a Deluxe. However they do have different handlebars. The Breakout is sweet and CVO Breakout even sweeter however very pricey. If I was 25 I would consider it , but at fifty 225 pounds and 6'1" it wont work as I wouldn't be able to stay on it very long. The Road king is sweet also, I especially like the Road King Classic with soft leather bags. Yes lots of used bikes out there, dont forget to get a survey!! haha, good luck and enjoy the search. Ive been riding for34 years, Hondas, Kawasakis, and many Harley's(not mine) Low Riders and Fatbobs mainly. This is my first Harley and always admired the Heritage, very comfortable feel, and for solo rides and a different look take off all the detachables.

I searched hi and lo and found a new 2013 sweet leftover in Big Blue Pearl added the Vance and Hines long shots and I cant wait for the nice weather.

Definitely rent before you buy. The rental fee will be put towards a purchase.

To relax from boats, it is a 2005 Wide Glide which has taken me from Central Florida to.....Montana via Rocky's and Yellowstone. Visited Little Big Horn, then through Minnesota and down to Iowa and the Field of Dreams. Head south to Lynchburg TN to see my adult life friend Jack..back to Florida, change cloths and end up in Maine, whoa. Heck since we are here, over New Hampshire into Vermont, I am going to visit my addiction Ben & Jerry's. Take ferry from Burlington over to the Adirondacks and down to the Catskills. Stop in Woodstock long enough to stand on Yasgur's farm and offer advice to a brassier-less ty-dyed shirt 70 year old, that the concert was over Mam, plezzzzz. Head south and stop at Gettysburg, Antietam, Spotsylvania, and Harper’s Ferry. Done there, go down through the Carolina's and have ridden the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway (469 mile) after concluding the whole Skyline Parkway, the Tail has nothing on the entire Blue Ridge, been there done that, got the t-shirt. Then it is a let's go on a history trip and rode down to Mississippi, where after a year of research and unreal help from the State of Mississippi, I was able to locate my G-G-Grandfather's CSA grave site just off the Natchez Trace. Spend the day with that relative and then headed to Birmingham and Auburn AL, where my Grandparents, Uncle and Mom & Dad rest today...whewww, I will rest in Auburn one day myself. Stop in Plains GA to sit in a Sunday service at the Maranatha Church and heard the pastor of the day, Mr. James Earl Carter give a service to me and only about fifty others attending that day, uh he be's the 39th President of the United States
Wanna go for a ride, no windshields or radios. Half helmets and sunglasses. Hit a Locus in Kansas that I swear I read tail numbers on right before he colored my face. Sturgis, Deadwood, Devils Tower, Bear tooth Pass, Glacier National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Smokey Mountain National Park, Downtown Manhattan, Boston…..starting point, Cape Canaveral FL….no trailers allowed. Those do not include the rides to Key West and all of the Conch Republic.

I'll go !

Love to go with you Brother Dave! It is 4am and I just went outside to visit the Glide in her own shed after all this talk. She's ready too!

Leave your house and I will leave mine at the same time...meet you at Saramee

Although she's a very down to earth girl, the princess likes her comfort and security (aka Lexus)

"Why Harley" is a great question. And, its (one hardcore Vietnam vet uncle who would dis-own me if I went metric).
Wonder how your uncle feels about that Lexus in your driveway? Lol. Reliability? My Yamahog has NEVER let me down EVER!
But,,,, If I ever had the urge to buy a new one It would prob be a harley.

Don't forget to post many pics of the new ride! Mines on a solar charger which is under 2' of snow so you got me in the mood with your thread!!!!

I'm bikeless at the moment but I was more of a sport-touring guy, the most recent of which was a Yamaha FJR1300 and before that a Honda VFR. On one bike or the other I was around Lake Superior, up in the UP, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Arkansas, etc. Lots of fun but with a boat there just wasn't time to do everything, and I agree with MonacoMike about boating being bad for your waistline... ;-) Since we're posting pics, here are a couple. The FJR on the north shore of Lake Superior, and the VFR in the driveway ~sigh~PICT0165.jpgIMG008.JPG

Ok, done deal. Here she is. Spent the day riding and looking at bikes but kept coming back to the Softail Breakout. She's a 2013 in big blue pearl but the pics don't do the paint justice. Just looks awesome in the sunlight. More &$#%^ snow tonight and tomorrow so they'll deliver it sometime this week. The waits gonna kill me.
