Engines
Cummins 450Cs, 9KW Onan Generator, 40HP Yamaha for tender.
Can anyone recommend a good shop where I can have custom winter cover made for my 320DA?

Thanks,
Alex.

Fisher's is good. Canvas makes and excellent, but very heavy cover. Figure about 100 pounds for your boat.

Best regards,
Frank

Based on what I've found, there are two Fisher companies.

1- H.F.Fisher & Sons, Inc
2- FISHER CANVAS PRODUCTS, Inc

From what I've heard #2 makes much heavier covers and almost double the price. Do you guys know or used H.F.Fisher & Sons, Inc?

Thanks,
Alex.

#2 is the one I know.

If you can wait until the boat show in AC, they give a decent discount on the price there.

Try these guys www.weissbrotherscanvas.com . Did great work on my boat and they are local (in NJ that is). Go on their web site and in gallery #3 (I think) they have a picture of Impulse III....did I mention that she is for sale !!

How the hell am I supposed to get a bigger boat if none of you pikers buy my present boat !! Where is the love ??

It's the black canvas. Doesn't do anything for me. Guess I'll have to wait until Dom is ready to move up.

Best regards,

I use a cover made by "VanNote custom canvas" Lavallette (732)830-6555
No hassle just have to take down summer canvas and frames. Works great for me. I have it for about 5 years now cost me $950

I had custom winter covers made for my 410DA. They are made from a lite weight, yet extremeley strong material like that used to cover inground pools. Made by a local canvas in NJ. They go on/off easily and quickly by myself.

Here's a few pics...

Frank,
Thanks for the info, but is this what you use as a winter cover or is this what you use a seasanal campar canvas?

The cover I'm hopping to get is something similar to what I had on my 240DA, or better.

Thx,

Dom,
You don't cover all your gear on the radar arch, ports sundeck hatch? Do you recall the shop you used, would you recommend them?

I guess, I'm much more conservative. Here’s the support I had for my 240DA winter cover:

Alex:

There are many schools of thoughts with regard to covering a boat for the winter. I have my own current opinions and I'll share my thoughts and reasoning.

With past boats I've made all types of elaborate support structures made of wood, PVC, barrels, rope, etc. I've stored boats in the water and on the hard. I've covered them with blue poly tarps, heavy canvas, regular sunbrella canvas and lite weight man made materials.

I've never winterized my boats earlier than Thanksgiving (except for the year my first was sick), usually late Decemeber Christmas week, and I am never re-commissioned later than April 15, usually shoot for first or second week of March.

I keep/kept all my boats in my backyard....either in or out of the water.

My current M.O. is to winter in the water behind my house, winterize the systems in early November and complete the winterization (mains and covers) late in December. Early in March, I start up the mains and remove the covers. Final recom sometime later in April.

If/when we do get snow in Jersey, if it's really bad, I can always go out back and brush it off.....but I usually don't bother. IMHO, snow is just cold rain...albeit a little heavier. My only concerns is to protect the summer canvas from caving in and to shed the snow from the main cockpit area so I can board to check things out over the winter.....Which, BTW, from the dates I posted above, is only 3 Months.

Oh...and the shop I use for all my canvas work is Mickey from Top Notch Canvas in Forked River area.
