I've already bought the Rate Gyro heading sensor unit Model E12102 and I'm getting ready to attach the install. Anyone crossed this bridge and have any "411" on difficulties or slick short cuts.:smt001

Enviroment is:

RL80CRC
Raytheon Course Computer (Type 1)
Raytheon Flux Gate
Ray 6000+ control head on AP

I have noticed the course computer has input for two fluxgates and two gyro's.

Whats the advantage to such a duplicate install?

I got a new fluxgate in the deal and could install it if it helped get a more stable heading calculation by the AP. But don't want to mess with it for no reason.

Okay, Got the E12102 nearly installed, and read the instrructions carefully. RM says to connect BOTH from the gyro (Sea Talk and NEMA) to the chart plotter . Sounds good BUT I have no open NEMA pins on the plotter, WTF!

Why wouldn't heading DATA run over SeaTalk anyway? Too much chatter for fast heading updates?

Okay, went back to the RL80 manual and found that NEMA runs inside the power cable. Ch 1 & 2 both are in there and diagrame don the pin out. Traced down the power cable and a nice installer had taped the NEMA leads back against the black insulation with black electrical tape. Hidden, but ... persistance pays.

Got the NEMA leads and ready to finish the install. I think I have become way to knowledgable about this RM SeaTalk/NEMA system than I wanted to be, Give me PnP any day!

For those that follow me on upgrading their Raytheon course computers with the RM E12102 Gyro Plus Heading gyro...

The System requires NEMA Out on NEMA ch2 if available (CH 1 can be used if CH 2 not availabe.l)

The E12012 gives chatter free heading updates over NEMA. THe E12102 ALSO uses SeaTAlk for power and compass updates to the system.
