Anyone have a clue as to why someone would have cut in this access panel?

Drug stash? lol. No idea

Thats a real bad place for it. Does the seat not offer access to the storage?. What are you going to do? repair or custom hatch?

I’m not sure what I’m going to do. The seat has no access to this it makes no sense at all. I have no idea what I’m going to do about it but it’s been like this for a few years at least and you wouldn’t notice it at all.

I bought the boat and had a professional survey by a highly rated surveyor. I’m pretty disappointed he missed this but then again I’ve opened the hatch countless times and I missed it too. The only way you would see it with the hatch open is if you stand on the starboard side step, can’t see it from the helm or cockpit so yeah a hiding spot?

Ducks, but it can easily be repaired and look like new. However, I would double check to ensure you won't need access to anything before you decide to repair.

its hidden when closed..? i will look at mine today... for some reason i think mine is open too

Would you ever need access inside there - to get to some fasteners for the seats, hinges anything? If it is not causing a problem I might get some edge molding to trim it out so the jagged fiberglass is not showing. Or, if I wanted to repair it, maybe cut a piece of Starboard - not sure how you would screw it into place though.

Great, let me know! The cut doesn’t seem to be geometric though, more like something zipped in quickly with a jigsaw...

The back of the transom locker has a few screws showing inside that panel, maybe it was left open from the factory? If so you would think it would be cut in with molding or something.

The pucker factor must have been sky high when the prior owner made that cut. That's a lot of glass. Seems like over time that much missing fiberglass could make that seat sag a bit? I'd consider replacing it if you can confirm you don't actually need that access...

Agreed! Fortunately the seat is not sagging and you would never know it was there unless you were 1) docked starboard side and walked on the dock with the hatch open or 2) a passing boat pointed it out :)

Maybe call SeaRay and confirm that was not done during the build - doubt it was, but I would at least call and ask.

The rear seat back maybe through bolted from the top. Without access you might not be able to secure or remove if necessary. Look up to see if that is the case. While its a pretty big opening I do not think it presents any structural issues and it is hidden when closed.

I spoke with SeaRay and they believe this was not cut at the factory but they are reviewing the drawings and will get back to me.

I can assure you that my '06 260DA did not have that cutout on the starboard side. It should be a solid piece because I remember how difficult it was to get to it to wax it. I cannot imagine what someone would need to do that.

Very interesting that Garry has the same cutout. I wonder if it was done to re-upholster the seat back although the vinyl appears to be original and it definitely does not look like that seat vinyl is newer.

There are Christmas tree clips that hold the back rest on and likely a few screws in the transom locker. I wonder if something was hitting as in something shifted and it was cut out to aid in closing the hatch? I have no idea.

We need Dennis to chime in here....
