Key West, Fl
Hey,

My wife and I keep our boat in Key West and are always interested in chatting about cool new places to go down here. Are there any other Keys members here? Maybe we could hook up for a drink or two. See my links below for photos and blog.

Morpheus, the Dry Tortugas are great. The company I work for runs the ferry that goes out to the Dry Tortugas. It's 140 miles round trip and at 2 gallans per mile, well ... lets just say that's a little out of my range. To bad too, because I would love to make that trip.

However, the Marquesas Keys are only about 25 miles west of Key West and are even more beautiful and uninhabited. And even closer is Boca Grande Key (and others) and the people you come across and the things you see going on on boats is ... well, lets just say it's a lot of fun.

PartnerShip, we use to keep Firefly in Marathon because the marinas are cheaper and because we really like the boating around Marathon. However, the 1hr commute from Key West to Marathon was killing us. So, we bit the bullet and moved Firefly to Key West. Now she's only three blocks from our house.

We love the Galleon Marina. I think it's probably the nicest marina on Key West, but very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very pricy. Their floating docks and wide finger piers are to kill for.

Where do you like to boat to when you are here?

I get a very good monthly rate at The Galleon.

We enjoy boating throughout the Keys. About 2 times a season we will go up to Islamorada and find a nice quiet place and live on the hook for about a week.

Also we usually go over to Marco and Naples at least once a year.

Hey Let's Conch Out!

Hi Duane, You and Lora seem to hav eit made. I'm in lauderdale, but have in previous boats spent weeks at a time at the Galleon and harvested a load of memories.

I also like the Marquesas. There is almost no humans there and those that are are well let's just say they are eclectic for the most part.

I love to run out to the Dry Tortugas and Ft. Jeff. I'm trying to put together a flotillia to go there over Labor day with the larger boats carrying extra fuel for the those that can't make the round trip on their own tanks. The park service prohibits trading/selling supplies now and transfers may have to be preformed on the yellow outter markers, but thats okay.

The fishing outside the park and the snorkeling around the fort is fantastic ...

In any event I'll be at the Galleon over labor day ... stay in touch and we'll hook up.

JC here also keep his SR in the Keys ... I'm sure he'll be here in a bit.

There's a couple who have a fishing boat next to ours at the marina and they go out to the Marquesas and Boca Grande Key almost every weekend (lucky dogs). Their boat has 3 huge outboards and they claim it'll do 60mph which I don't doubt. For them, it's nothing to jump over to the outer islands. When they come back, the guy will be showing me photos on his digital camera that he has taken that day. He'll show me 2 photos and then say, "Ewww, can't show you that one ... the wife doesn't have any clothes on." Then he'll show me 2 more and not the next so on and so on. Of course, sometimes he slips and lets us see the photos we're not suppose to, usually with a wink.

When you guys go cruising either to the outer islands or just cruising down the keys, what speed do you usually go? With the high cost of gas these days, Lora and I have been treating our cruiser more like a troller. At 1300 rpm and about 7.5mph, we get a little better than 1 MPG.
