Any advice?

I carry several short pieces of 2x6 boards. I don't like to use a jack on the side of the road! I carry enough to drive the good tires on and lift high enough to change the bad one!

I took my boat from Michigan to West Palm Beach FL with no issues (except a ground skeg....long story).

1) Make sure your captains seats is locked-down (it can swivel and hit your trim down button on the throttle).
2) If you have a cover on, make sure that the extra webbing in the straps are secure and tied in a knot or something. They tend to flap in the wind and will tear up quickly.
3) Make sure your engine cover does not 'fly up'. On the 220 SD, this is a major issue
4) Have an extra hub/bearing set
5) Have an extra tire as well as a jack and tire iron (make sure it fits the trailer lugs).
6) Have extra tail light bulbs.
7) Make sure you have your trailer registration handy.
8) Take your time.
9) Make sure the trailer's weight is 'balanced' (assuming you have stuff in the boat).
10) Bring a grease gun & tube of grease.

That is all good inof! A few issues i will have though are, how will the registration work. It will be registered in VA to the owners (Wife's cousin) and i assume i will have to bring a temp tag with me? Also, i will not know the lug size until i get there, that is fine though, i will just take my entire ratchet set.

I know this may be a stupid question... Just talked to my wife's cousin. He is purchasing a new trailer for us, having it set up for my truck (gave him the measurements of the hitch) and then hopefully in 2 weeks we can go pick up the boat! Now the dumb question, the trailer has disc brakes. Are they also controlled by the harness that plug into the truck next to the hitch? Or will they require some other sort of connection??? Sorry for the newb questions!

I had never towed a boat till I bought ours and everything went fine. Do the checks that were suggested. I drove 150 miles with no problems and kept it under 60 most times, Just seems easier on the truck. (04 Avalanche 1500) I bought trailering mirrors for this season so we will see how that works, I could not see around the 8' beam at all but I got used to it. If I would turn just a little in my lane i can see around it but the mirrors will be a nice addition.

Good luck & post some pics when you get it.

I never would have thought about that either, but it happened and I ground my skeg down to a nub. Thank GOD for Skeg Guard....cheaper than welding a new skeg on.

Hey surfinjoe that's a great tip, never would have thought of that.
