Any 21' Seville Mid Cabin owners out here?

I have an appointment for this Friday (5/31/2013) to look at a 1987 Sea Ray Seville II MC. It has the 4.3L V-6 in it.

Hoping for good news; I've been boatless for far too long.

(New to the board, too)

Just got back from heading out to see this Sea Ray. I liked the V-6 (never driven a boat with a V-6 before, always been V-8s). The cabin has seen better days. It seems the pressure water may not be working, much to my dismay. This boat will definitely have a few projects for me over the years, should I get it.

The engine was staying cool until I throttled up to check WOT, then it climbed up to >200 degrees (maybe 210). The current owner hasn't replaced the impeller for the season, though, so that is a likely suspect. I'm not sure I want this boat. I COULD see myself helming it, but overall, I was partly disappointed. Then again, for my budget, something that runs, and is sea-worthy should be looked at as a bargain, I suppose. I think I want this one, but could use a little encouragement.

Stats:
WOT rpm: 4410 (digital rpm gauge)
Prop: 15 x 17 3-blade
WOT speed: around 30 mph. I was too busy watching temp and traffic to look at my GPS unit too much. Plus, I was on the Cape Cod Canal, which was flowing fast. This threw off the speed readings, as they were reading SOG.

Mine was a 86 that had been re-powered with a 260 (350) carbed V8 and had a alpha leg that was rebuilt. The complete interior was re-done in nice materials and the cockpit seating and all other vinyl was profesionally done in white vinyl. All of the fake wood was re-done in a nice looking granite (left the teak trim) I had a 19" flat panel, GPS, on board charger, dual batteries, 20 gallon freshwater system, head with porta-pottie, Full camper canvas and mooring cover that were all like brand new. Just a nice boat and I sold it for $6,600 on a shorelandr' roller painted trailer that had new everything.

This boat had a 4 blade SS prop and I got to 41 mph (gps) with it and would cruise about 23mph

It was a great boat, Loved it but we ran out of room, Cockpit layout had some issues but that boat sure handled nice, No anchor locker was a pain in the @$$ also but all in all Sea Ray did a great job putting a aft-cabin in a 21 foot boat.

Yes, I did note the lack of anchor locker. I was wondering if there was a good way to convert & insert one into the space at the bow, just ahead of the V-berth.

I looked quite a bit and even started a thread looking for a triangular bolt in hatch but had no luck finding one, That's really all you would need but I just couldn't find one. If I did find one I was just going to put a bow roller & a cleat in the center and it would have worked perfect.

I've now had her for about 3 months. The kids love it, and the Mrs. *may* be warming up to it, but this is my therapy. It is somewhat beat up, but I'm slowly bringing it back up. Got the canvas fixed, fixed the cooling system, put on a 4-blade prop. Slowly removing the mildew stains on the cockpit seats (any recommendaions on that, BTW - using Spray-9 so far).

The cabin needs some new cushions and I may get a peltier-style cooler or fridge. I am retrofitting electronics from my last boat (boat #5) onto this one.

Question: has anyone retro-fitted an anchor locaker and hawespipe in their bow at all? I'm seriously considering doing that...

This is a pic from the PO, but here ya go:

Great looking boat.

Thanks. It is looking marginally better now. I'll be tinkering withit for a few years, I suppose. I'd like to build some stowage into the cockpit and add an anchor locker. I have electronics from boat #5 (I permanently decommed that one) to move over, as the ones that are there are non-operational.

But I love that it is so small and easy to trailer. I like the small fuel bills, while still having the go-go power. I like it is small, but is big enough that should I want to weekend on it with the wife and kids, I can. I like that is it old enough that I can do stuff to change it without feeling like I'm compromising the design, but it is new enough that I can do the latter on a choice-by-choice basis. Great niche boat.

I loved my old Seville, great handling boat. Really the only reason I traded up was because of the terrible cockpit layout. More than 3 or 4 people and there was no place to sit. I knew that boat inside & out and still miss it sometimes.

Me too, we loved the boat, just wish the cockpit was laid out better.

How many of you trailer or trailered (for those that have sold theirs) your Seville 210 MC? I keep mine at home. If any of you do (did), did you have a carport or anything to store it under? If so, do you consider it as being a worthwhile investment for the boat?

I did not have a carport but kept the canvas mooring cover on it all summer and it stayed dry as a bone. I stored it indoors for the winter. A carport would be nice for the summer.

hey all, first post here though i have been a member for a few years (my dad has a 440 EB)
i just picked up a project boat..so im sure i will have alot of questions..
its a '86 Seville 210 Mid cabin... its got the blue at the beltline and came with the optional shore power with a real fridge!. no alcohol stove though. (is it worth adding?) the strange thing about it is it has a FORD V8!! with the mercruiser outdrive... is this factory?? i know most of these came with the mercruiser GM 4.3 V6. i thought fords were usually coupled to OMC outdrives?? ive never seen one of these with a Ford V8 in it, especially coupled to a mercruiser outdrive... do you think it was a repower? anyway the 2nd to the last guy who owned it had all the cushions redone...even in the cabin..with white vinyl with blue piping.. looks nice. i do need to have the coaming pads redone. i do need a new bimini top and cockpit cover... the original was made by Great Lakes Boat Top Compay... does anyone still make canvas for the sevilles or am i going to have to have a canvas guy do it using the old top as a pattern? the guy i bought the boat from had bought it at auction and never did anything to it.. he lived in philly and had it parked outside his house in center city and someone stole the outdrive off it right there on the street!! one of the reasons i got it so cheap :smt001 Any mercruiser Alpha one will work on it, right? i have a spare one from a '90 sea ray 200 that had the 4.3 V6. will that work?

i also need other bits and pieces...anyone parting one of these out?

im sure i'll have tons of questions as i dig into this thing..i'll post some pics if it ever gets above freezing again and i can wash the tree grime off of it.... and if spring ever comes!!!:smt013 so sick of winter!!

We've seen lots of Ford blocks coupled to the old style 898 merc outdrives in this part of the country. Might have been a transplant out of an earlier vessel, maybe mid 70's:huh: Our 22 ft Seville MC was a bit under powered with the factory 4.6. I think the extra torque of the V8 will come in handy. Ours never did have the alcohol stove either, and we didn't miss it. Some of our other boats have had them and I found them to be a PITA to use (too slow and finicky). We use the gas cook top by Kenyon (I believe) in our current boat, although I don't like the idea of littering the planet with all those empty gas bottles. Also have a Coleman single burner pump type camp stove that can boil a kettle full of water in less than 5 minutes. They're dangerous to use in boats unless it's perfectly calm and you're very careful. Bbq is the best cooker for most things. The tank can sit on yer swim platform, right beside the Honda genny:grin:. Please post some pics, we miss that boat. It was one of the funnest and carefree boats we've ever owned, except when it came time to work on the engine:smt013:grin: Good luck with it.

Sad to say I just traded my Seville.. One summer and we realize we need more room for guests up top..
Bought an 08 Glastron 259! Beautiful boat.. Ive got some great memories on the Seville cruising Long Island Sound, NYC etc..

I ended up with the same issue, Bub. That, and that the Mrs. needed to have more boat around her to feel safer on the water. Sold mine in August, and picked up a '93 Monterey 286.
