Any 195 owners out there?????

Merge,

I got a question on how you wired some things in your boat because I may be doing the same. For the remote that you installed to the left of the steering wheel, where did you route the wire to get to the back of the cd player. Did you find somewhere through the ski locker or did you route the line back around the back seats up the other side. Also for your LED lights, did you wire them into the accessory panel under the dash and if so what size fuse did you put on it. I was thinking of maybe wiring mine together with the wire coming of the nav lights so when I turned the nav lights on the LED's came on too. Thanks in advance.

Trucky...

How are you? The walk thru wind dam was a must! I measured several times to get some rough dimensions, cut me a template out of heavy cardboard and that was that! Literally, once I had the right dimensions, I ordered a piece of red plexi from eplastics.com, 1/4"..... I ran to the local hardware store and picked up a 48" piece of 1/4" aluminum "channel", cut it to length, rounded the edges with a grinder, drilled and counter-sunk some holes for the screws and mounted them in the walkway.... Easy DIY....

Saw your in Asheville, NC.... My wife's best friend from college lives in Asheville... Love that area, any time of year!!!!

Dalefan264...

The remote I added at the steering wheel, the wiring wraps around the underside of the bow of the boat... The patchcord was plenty long enough to go this route, didn't want to try and fish it thru the ski locker...

All of the LED's in my boat.... I built a custom wiring harness for them.... None of my LED's are tied into the factory wiring harness in the boat! I purchased two switches from my local SeaRay dealer, the same switches that are in the 195, so everything matches.... You'll notice in my pics there are two switches below the speedo, those are the two I added for the LED's.... One toggle for all of the LED's on the interior of the boat and one toggle for everything on the exterior, the tower speakers, under the swim platform, the vents and the remote control for the radio located on the transom!!!!

Hope this answers some of your questions!

Wow Merge, that's a sick set up. . . How much did Sea Ray charge for the 2 switches for the LED's? I'm VERY picky about appearance and matching is a must.

Mitch_Texas...

I'm not sure on the cost of the switches..... Seems like it was $12-$15 bucks per switch, but I don't remember... I could dig up the invoice because I've kept EVERY RECEIPT for everything I've done to the boat! I appreciate the compliments! Still got a few tricks up my sleeve, got some more things that I want to do the my 195! CD player went out last season... Everything else on the radio still functions and we use an IPod most of the time, but, I still like for everything to work as it should! Problem is, the radio is discontinued, I can't seem to track one down and if I go with a new head unit, it means replacing the two remotes as well!!!!$$$$$

So merge for the LED's did you connect a wire straight from the battery to a switch then from the switch to the LED's. Did you put a fuse anywhere on them and if so what size. I am not the best at all the electrical stuff and just do not want to burn the boat up. Looks like you know what you are doing when it comes to the LED's

Dale...

Yes... Positive straight from the battery to the switch, then switch to fuse, fuse to wiring harness. If you take a look at the fuse panel beneath the steering wheel, there are a couple of "Open" spade terminal "Grounds"... That's where I grounded the entire wiring harness. The LED's pull very little amperage... At last glance, all of the LED's combined, I'm at about 700 milliamps... As for the size of the fuse, I'm not really sure I remember... Next time I'm at the boat storage I'll crawl up under the steering wheel and check the fuse... Sorry I wasn't of more help on the fuse size....

As far as knowing what I'm doing, I'll take that as a compliment! The LED's weren't a hard project to do, just EXTREMELY time consuming, because they are all over the boat and I wanted everything to be hidden, no wires showing and everything looking factory...

Thanks merge I am going to try and get that done right after I wire up my tower speakers I just put on. I will post some pictures of it once I get finished. I only have four LED lights so I am not sure if it is going to look good or not. We will see I guess.

Ok, I get to spend sunday installing the towers, amp, subs, extra battery. (gatta love texas 100 weather) I ordered my LED's which come in nice little silver casing brackets of 5 LED each, I also found a site to order some Switches for them to match current dash switches. But for the wiring, what gauge did you use for the LEDs? or does it really mater since these things take so little power?

Mitch...

Good luck on the install!!! The Texas heat will zap you, so keep a box fan there in the boat with ya!!!! And some shade if that's a possibility!!! Glad you found all that you need for the project!!! The custom wiring harness I made for my LED's was made from 16gauge speaker wire (because I had it left over from my tower speaker project, plus, it was the "positive" and "ground" already together).... Then, I used 20gauge from the LED's to go to the harness... The only exception was where I used 22gauge on the lights beneath my swim platform.... I wanted the smallest hole possible to go thru the transom, for obvious reasons....

Pics when your projects are done.... Better yet, how bout' pics during the install? Those are always good, just to see the project unfold!!!!

Merge,

Thanks that helps. I'll take some pics as we work on the speakers this weekend. LED's will probably be the next weekend. Can only take so much heat at once, LoL. and ya I got my marina to let me used their covered boat repair area for the work, and heavy duty fan is a must LoL. How is the weather down in Houston? Its hot here, but you guys have all the humidity!

BTW to any of you guys. I am going to install a depth finder, just didnt want to pay $400 from Sea Ray. The 2 I keep seeing are the Hawkeye or HumminBird. I want one that doesnt require drilling in the hull. Which one\model do you guys currently have and works well?

Where are you going to put the amp for your speakers? I am going to finish that up (hopefully) today and I am debating on where to put it. I am not sure if it will fit under the console where the radio is and if so I am worried that if it gets too hot in there will it mess up anything. I was also looking at putting it in the front left bow compartment and just route the wires back to the stereo/battery from there. Got any ideas?

Mitch - I have the factory depth finder, so I cant help you there. Sorry....

Dalefan - mine fit under the console on the radio side. I am looking at adding a second amp and I will put that one on the wall next to the batteries in the rear storage.

Wow installing tower speakers, sub, amp, depth finder, and 2nd battery system was NOT fun. . . Fishing the wire into the tower bar was a little tricky, but the real issue was having to unhook the front bar bracket that holds down the tower to feed the line into the boat. Once it was in everything ran nicely around the bow. Had to do some minor cutting to fit in the sub under the deck but nothing major. Sounds amazing! definitely wont need any more speakers for this boat!

Depth sounder was easy, went with a Nighthawk In hull,

The 2nd battery system makes me feel a LOT safer about not draining my battery when I'm anchored out listening to music, especially since AquaPalooza is on the 31st!

I'll load some pictures of everything once I get them off my camera. Now just have to hook up the LED lights, but that may be a while, this last project was a lot more work then I expected. . . haha

Mitch....

Good to hear you got several projects out of the way!!!! Hope to see pics soon.... I'm about to do the second battery thing for the piece of mind out on the water... I have already got everything, just need to make the time to do the install!!! The LED project will change the look of the boat completely!!!! Looking forward to seeing pics of everything you've done thus far!!!!

Well I finally installed my tower speakers which was a pain and got all the wiring through the tubing of the tower. The best thing I found for that was the "IDEAL 20' ThumbWinder fish tape" from lowes. That was strong enough and also flexible enough to get the wire through the tower no problem. Too bad I tried about 4 other techniques before I got to that one. Strongly suggest picking one of those up for anyone else wanting to do the same thing. I could not fit my amp in the console under the radio so I was going to mount it somewhere in the bow and run the cable back but I did not have enough cable so I did not get that done. I think now I have just decided to put it in the back because I am going to also put a sub along with another amp back there as well. I am going to try and build some type of amp rack to put back there. As promised, I will post some pics when I get it done.

Also I am going to put in a battery switch and I have a question. My power cable coming from the engine has a battery terminal connector that is too big to fit on the battery switch. I need to put a terminal with a smaller ring on it. Are you guys just cutting the engine power cable and crimping a new connector on there? I thought you needed a special crimping tool for that. I found a terminal that will fit and it has a set screw that you tighten down to hold the cable but I am not sure what gauge power cable that is coming from the engine? Does anyone know? Thanks

Merge-

Thanks!

Del-

Grats on the tower, ya i had to use this thing to fish the tower as well which is what took the most time!

I used a 2 gauge for the engine power cable which is what mine used. It could be a 4 guage, but if you get down there you should be able to look at the existing cable and see what it is labeled. I'm sure there are different types of battery devices but I used one of these to combine the battery. My friend helping is a boat electronic and he recominded this for me to use. This is all good info. I have been looking at installing a battery switch in my boat and I like the idea of the dual battery setup. Where did you guys mount the swtich and relay box? Do you have any pics of the installed product?

Thanks in advance. Scott

Kermit-
I'll Load some pics of where I installed my amp, second battery and the switch. But if you can visualize it, i had the switch mounted right above the engine. That way it is easy to get to if I need to switch it. But make sure that if you mount it there to use a fiberglass drill bit so it doesn't crack.

Jmlloyd-
Just wondering does the amp ever overheat under the radio? I thought of putting it there or in the bow, but it didn't seem to get much air. For now I have in mounted in the side cubby on the driver side below the throttle, this way I can also adjust it if I need.

Mitch - I have not had any problems with overheating, but my amp is just a small 2 channel that powers my tower speakers only and it usually only runs for a couple hours at a time before we are up and running again.
