Anti-freeze in the toilet?

The anti freeze question. If you have pink in the fresh water tank to protect the lines and then flush....now you have pink in the toilet bowl. Done.

I am under the impression from everyone I talk to that if you put Pink in your FW tank it will be hell getting the taste out once you recomission. We protect the lines by emptying FW and then using its feed line to suck in pink from a bucket. No pink is every going into the FW tank. HW is bypassed as well so no pink in there either.

There is a procedure in the owner's manual entitled "Sanitizing the water system" that works very well in removing both sulfur (nasty rotten egg smell) and pink taste.

The actual instructions do not state "Put x gallons of bleach in your FW tank", but work out to approximately 1/2 gallon of bleach for a 28 gallon tank. You fill the tank and let it sit for 3 hours. After that, you simply run all of your faucets until the tank is empty, refill with just water, and run it dry again. I flushed 3 times last spring before the bleach smell was gone.

The procedure works great, and the FW tasted about as good as water stored in plastic could taste. We bring fresh bottled water when we stay on the boat, so we really don't use it for drinking or cooking, but we do brush our teeth with it.

Once you perform this procedure, just be sure to never fill the tank with water from a well. Use municipal water sources only or you will end up with the rotten egg smell and have to sanitize again...

At a dinner party at my home some years ago a friend asks..

"Hey, whats the biggest scare you've had in your job so far??"
I thought for a moment and then replied.

"There was this one time that a flight attendant called my house!

Thanks Michael. I had read that info (about stinky water) but others told me you would "never" get the pink taste out. so it is good to know other first hand experiences.

Our marina is acually on a well, but it is clorinated to city water standards. Since there is a restaraunt, the water quality is checked often by the Health Dept.

Some people add a little shot of bleach everytime they fill the FW tank. They say it works better than the tablets and cheaper.
