Break Out Another Thousand. Well what started out as a routine preventive maintenance routine turned out to be another expensive job! Starboard side engine raw water impeller was scheduled to be changed as my routine maintenance schedule. Well the pump was all scared up on the inside, so now the entire pump assembly will be changed. What started out as an inexpensive PM will now be over a thousand dollars again. Last year port side engine had the same thing. The old impeller was showing signs of getting ready to go, so I guess I did save myself a long trip home on one engine. Was there once someone on this forum that would preach “wait till it breaks”!

I’m not sure which of my hobbies is more expensive, the medical bills from the old motocross days, or the boat now!

Oh, that sucks!
If it makes you feel any better, every time I see your sig pic, I cant help but think "that is one sexy boat" lol
Makes me want to visit the Harbor just so I can see it in person :)

Was it the side of the pump that was messed up? I know another member found a guy making wear plates. Probably too late now.

Back side and front side walls, which seems strange to me?? Groved up real bad.

Don't feel bad Bill, I DID HAVE TO LIMP HOME earlier this week for the same reason. Starboard engine NO PEE PEE:smt089

If the bearing seal is good and bearings are not worn out keep the old one as a spare. Put in new impeller and you will know you have a way home if you have problems

We feel your pain :smt089! Someone told us recently that when you get above 30' it's not a BOAT it's BOA"F"T....Break out another five thousand:) We had to have quite a bit of PM plus other stuff the PO had not done (and which we accounted for in our purchase price) a few months ago, every time we visted the Mercruiser dealer or he called us it was something else....nearly $10k later...... she runs well:) Plus like Karen said she looks sexy...must be worth it right:)

That’s not a bad idea. I wonder if I could have the groves machined out, or would that open the tolerance too much? As I said in my original post I had the very same condition on the Port side engine last season.

Well, between the boat, the boat gas, and the maintenance of boat ownership for the past three years, I have now officially spent more money "out of pocket" on the boat than I did in 10 years riding motorcycles...including hospital bill for my broken arm. On the plus side, I am seeing my family and friends a whole lot more and no more "I had a friend who died on the motorcycle" stories. But, I'm with you. I have days where I think I should go back to bikes.

Here is what the pump looked like.

Just spell boat with two T's "BOATT" then it covers more ground. Two thousand, three thousand, Ten thousand ....you get the point!

Yep Starboard water pump assembly just replaced here again. Second time now in 3 years!! Just under 1K at our MM dealer, definitely BOAT. Nice thing is I have some more spare parts :)

I put a wear plate in my Bravo pump which I believe is the same pump you have for your V-drive. Here is the thread that started this discussion of the wear plate to begin with. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.ph...-Housing-Cover-Assembly-Bravo3?highlight=pump

The new Mercruiser pump they installed is likely to have a plastic front cover as opposed to the old one which has a brass cover, but (the good news) is there is now a stainless steel wear plate on the inside of that plastic cover. Mercury has not developed a wear plate for the rear of the housing yet, but generally speaking the main problem with loss of pressure is caused by the groove in the front of the housing.

I always thought that boat stood for Bend Over And Take it

This looks like an excellent solution, guess I should have posted before I bought the pump!
