...another story of thinning of the herd

looks to be close to dusk. wonder if they didn't see it? Can't believe they would try that with 2 on board. Looks like to me the passenger pull the driver off the ski.

Yeah, but if they're excuse was they can't see, they should not have been going that fast. To me it appeared like they intended on doing this. The impact of the passenger on the back of the rider could have broken her back or both of their backs. The PFD may have cushioned the blow.

I was over there the day that happened last week (but didn't see the incident occur though). The lake is around 12 ft high and most of the natural landmarks are under water. Plus at dusk it is very tough to see the top of the spillway, and the water was glass on the part of the lake. No excuses for going that fast with a ton of debris floating in the lake right now. But the reason they found the girl (passenger) down the river was because she was wearing a whistle attached to her life vest and was blowing it continually.

Lake Lewisville is a very popular lake in the Dallas area, and we have a lot of people that rent boats and jet ski's without knowing anything about the lake. Worst, is we have a lot of people who own boats and jet ski's without knowing anything about the lake. They know how to get to party cove and back to to marina or ramp.

There is also an old dam in the middle of the lake that used to dam up Lake Dallas. They cut two holes in the dam to flood into a larger lake which is now Lake Lewisville. The water is so high, that same weekend two 30ft + boats ran right over the dam and sank also. The water is covering parts of the dam, but other parts are very visible. This is a not a functioning dam, just looks like an old concrete wall in the middle of the lake that has been there for over 30 years.

You know, I think thats a good example of why its important to stay in your ability and always obtain decent "local boater" knowledge. As for if it was intentional or not,,,, seems like very handy placement of a cameraman to just be a coincident.

just my thoughts

Being on our local volunteer fire dept, we had a call a few years back for some who drove a jet ski over our dam. I live in a tourist area and the rent alot of them. The person who was driving it was stopped earlier for drinking and driving recklessly. She couldn't speak english very well and drove it over a dam onto a 30ft wide concrete spillway and died. Her rider was lucky enough to jump off.
