Greetings everyone, I don't know if I can even call myself a newbie yet. We just started the purchase process on a 2000 Sea Ray 290 Sundancer. Looking forward to taking my family (wife, three kids, and two dogs) out on the lake. We live near Lake Lanier in Georgia where we will be getting a slip on one of the Marinas. I am sure I will have a ton of questions but this place looks very informative.I look forward to sharing some stories, pics, and questions with you guys. Maybe I will get to run into a few of you as I have seen a few members from this area on here. Thanks for the add.

Welcome!! Congrats!
Were at Port Royale on the west side

Welcome to the club. We lived in Buford from 94 to 98. Can’t imagine how crazy that lake is now. Congrats on your new to you boat. 290’s are nice boats.

My grandma lived in Jefferson. Many a Sunday trip over to Lake Lanier. It wasn’t so crazy back then.

Good luck on the purchase and congrats!

Welcome aboard! We live between Athens and Sunrise Cove Marina out of Oakwood. Let me know if you might want to have a look at the marina and would be glad to show you around.

Lake Lanier can get crazy June-August. The other 9 months almost feel like you have the place to yourself.

Welcome aboard, we are in Buford and have our boat at Holiday Marina. The 290 is a great boat, congrats and holler if you have any questions, I'm happy to help. Dan

Welcome! We're over at Hideaway Bay. Any idea where you'll be keeping the boat?

Welcome!! good luck with purchase

Thank you everyone. I think we are going to be going to Aqualand for our slip for this year. They have the most spots right now and it’s less than 20 minutes away. Looked pretty clean when we visited but I’m sure when more people are out I will get a better idea of these Marinas. It would be great to get together with some of you and pick your brains and get some pointers.

Aqualand is great, just be careful what dock and slip location you pick. They have a lot of open slips as some of them are brutal in the summer, the wakes that roll in will bounce your boat in the slip like you are anchored at sea. Not all but some and it is hard to tell in the winter with light traffic in going by the marina. I would talk to potential dockmates and ask first.

Thank you. I will definitely ask. They said docks ZJ and S had available spots. I think there was one on S that was one of the first spots coming from the parking lot. If it’s available I might ask for that one for the season while the lake is still full.

We used to be on ZJ. I would urge you to reconsider. That's where Atlanta Sales keeps their inventory and too many strangers were wandering up and down the dock with no accompaniment. And I personally don't think they paid too much attention to private boats vs. boats for sale. And when our boat was out of the water for service it was quite the surprise to find Atlanta Sales had taken over our slip in our absence... and our power.

Check out Hideaway Bay. Right next door, quieter and more sheltered. And much, much better dock security.

Hideaway was our first choice but was already full. I appreciate the info on ZJ we did not know that. Holiday was full for our size as well. I will try to get one of the open spots at S dock unless something else opens up. Thank you for the info, that would have been bad

There are slips at Holiday that are open but might be a little bigger than you need, they let you transfer slips pretty easily when a smaller one comes up. If you need to find a home at a nice covered dock, we have a couple open on R dock.

We will check them out again, they had one open that was quite a bit more that we didn’t need the space for and didn’t want to take it if a taller boat needed it. They did say to call back because it changes each week. I’ll try again in a couple of weeks. We still have our survey to do and once that’s ironed out it needs bottom paint so we have time to find our slip. Thanks for all the info it really helps!

Sunrise Cove is only about 5 miles up McEver from Aqualand. Quieter and cheaper than the rest. B dock is brand new.....Sheltered cove with very minimal traffic.
