Hi everyone... I'm Nate... Fairly new to boating. I decided last winter/early spring that I wanted to get a small runabout for weekend fun at the many lakes here in mid-Michigan. SO, I called up my buddy Greg who's family owns/runs Trition Industries (manufactures of Manitou Pontoons) and had him get me in touch with one of their better dealers. I told the salesman who called me what I was looking for and he told me he had a mint 89 Sea Ray 160 BR which would make a great starter boat and would fill all of my requirements. So after sending me digital pictures, deciding I like it and getting a price, I picked up my new (used) boat!

Ran it about 15 times last summer, and aside from needing the points replaced I've been very happy. But, I've got this problem... it's the inability to leave things they way they are. So I've got a large amount planned for my boat; put in a full stereo (with sub) last summer, and this year I'll be doing an interior update with new carpet, vinyl and seats.

Hope to make new friends and plenty of contacts!!

Welcome...my first boat was an '89 Sea Ray 200br ...loved it.

Thanks Quint!!

I sure love my 160... it might be small, but it's exactly what I want; pulls a couple tubes without a problem, can handle 6 people, hits the mid 40's mph and towing it from lake to lake is a cake-walk!!!

I'm hoping to run into some more people on here sporting late 80's-early-90's 160's, 175's, 180's and 190's!!! I'd love to see the condition of some of these other older boats!

Welcome to the board.
I am from the Battle Creek Area, what lakes in Mid Michigan do you go to?

OHHH spectacular! I've been to Pleasant Lake, Jordan Lake (in Lake odessa), Lake lansing... That's about as far as I got last summer in the mid michigan area... Long lake and Lake huron up in alpena (went up for a week due to work; might as well have some fun too!!).

Any good lakes you'd recommend? I'm from the Lansing area so any drive over two hours would be a bit of a stretch for somewhere I'd go often.

You think your buddy Greg could get us some discounts on them pontoon boats?

We go to Duck Lake south of Eaton Rapids, Goguac in Battle Creek and Gull Lake over by Kalamazoo.

HA... I wish! They can't give discounts. Their dealer contracts stipulate that the sell through dealers and can't give discounts. IF it were the case otherwise, I'd have gotten one of their SHP triple tube pontoons complete with wake tower!
