Might as well introduce myself (former lurker/sponge)
Been into "floatation" since a child. Back in 1980 I went to the Boat Show and found this cute little 15' Four Winns Bowrider. About to sign the paper work when the salesman asked for some good faith money. Hell, I spent all my money on beer and parking! I remembered a bag of quarters in my car that I was going to roll up and take to the bank.
The sales guy was an old timer and commented that in 30-some years he never had anyone make a down payment with change
In 86 I bought my first real boat. It was a 1976 Formula F233. Wish I still had that one, but after 1100 some hours I looked for a replacement.
In 98 I scored a real albatross. A 1988 Formula F26PC. It was a repo that the marina rebuilt over the winter. New motor, pumps, full camper canvas, plumbing, the works...
2 hours on the clock the engine went. Got another 120 out of the next one when she blew during a tournament. The next motor was on my dime. Basically a money pit that I never really trusted, although we took her several times to our Upper Peninsula.
Finally dialed her in after another 6-7k. I don't think anyone really loved her from the start!
Like a stray dog...
In 04 I went into a different direction. Got myself a Scout Center Console. Awesome boat, but after moving our camp to Lake Erie it was quickly realized it was too small for my old back. Sold her last year with a shed tear or two.
Full circle...
Now a proud owner of a 2008 240 DA. She had 137 hours on the clock and was rack stored.
I had Loadmaster build me a custom trailer for the occasional trip up North.
We brought her to Lake St Clair for this season, in hopes of more boating without driving 100 miles
Thanks for all the great information on CRS!
