another mercruiser overheating!!

my hose was not leaking either since the hose is under suction it can pull both air and water and then when the engine is shut off the water simply drains back down to the out drive. We were running the engine on the muffs and when we tightened that clamp the garden hose actually collapsed under the suction.

good luck with your diagnostics.

UPDATE:

The new thermostat housing arrived & i managed to fit it today & sea trial her.

PROBLEM SOLVED  It was quite choppy at sea with 3-4 foot waves when i went out but i managed to cruise at 4200 rpm for 15-20 mins & the temp stayed steady at 155 degrees, she's never run that cool before. As you can imagine the engine was working quite hard in the rough conditions.

I used my original thermostat which proves it was a problem with the housing, I did also remove/inspect the circulating pump but everything was all ok.

Now the annoying bit!!!. The seawater inlet pipe on the new housing is leaking, so i'm gonna have to remove it and send back to the usa!!

Thanks Dennis & everyone else for all you suggestions & help with this problem

Great news, Steve! I'm sure that makes you feel a lot better... knowing you don't have to think about it anymore.
