anode inquiry

1. I just realized I've never seen an anode plate on my gimbal housing. Any other Bravo 3 owners have/missing it?
2. Does Mercruiser use engine zincs or pencil zincs in the cooling system? They're not in any diagrams.

Didn’t have one until late 2003 / 2004.

Look under the cavation plate. They added the prop anode when they added the second cavation plate anode.

You can add the prop anode.

Pencil zincs on the cooling system are usually present in the heat exchanger, but not always. If the engine is RWC, no zincs in the engine. If it's FWC, check to see if your heat exchanger uses one.

I do have the two piece drive with the extra cavitation plate and prop anode. I was referring to a plate that appears to mount under the gimbal housing.

I have raw water cooling so I don't need engine zincs. Mercruiser knows better than me but it seems they could only help the risers and manifolds last longer. Or does the cooling system only suffer from salt corrosion, not galvanic?

Do you have a Alpha 1 or a Bravo III?

If Bravo III, dont you have a Merc Cathode in this spot? That would replace the anode in that spot.

If you don’t want the mercathode then I think the Alpha I anode will fit. The only reason I can think of doing this is if you wet slip your boat in a location that does not have power. The Mercathode will drain the battery dead over a few days.

ok what confused me was they call the part "anodic plate assembly". Why not mercathode assembly? :smt101 Now I see, the part comes with two seals for the wires.
