I'm looking for a very nice Italian restaurant in Maryland. I would prefer the Annapolis/Balt metropolitan areas but will take any ideas in the general area ( including DC ) if the restaurant is truly exceptional. I know for steak there is Ruth's Chris, but what other options are out there for an excellent steak house.

I always enjoy going to Maria's in downtown Annapolis. The upstairs is much nicer, especially by the fireplace and window.

There are several nice Italian restaurants in Baltimore's "Little Italy". I have been to several of them over the years. They were all very good. Velleggia's, Chiapparelli's and Sabatino's
Tio Pepe is always good but it is Spanish, not Italian.

In Annapolis for steak skip Ruth Chris and Morton's, go to Lewnes in Eastport. Maria's for formal Italian at City Dock, Manga at City Dock is their casual restaurant, both good. Piccola Roma on Main Street was very good, formal, then went out of business and opened again with new owners. I have not been there under the new owners so I can't review.
For Italian in DC- Finemondo on F Street NW. It is a heavier country style Italian.
For Italian in Baltimore- Most of the Little Italy places.

I would not reccommend Velleggia's, Chiapparelli's and Sabatino's they are over-rated tourist traps. I have stopped going to the aforementioned restauarnts about ten years ago.

That's odd. I've always thought the opposite about them. Just places that locals go to get Italian food. We go elsewhere when we have guests in town.

Bella Napoli in Pasadena Md. You will not be disappointed. Four Star food at working mans prices. Don't let the fact that it's in a strip mall fool you. George
