ok, trying to get my checklist and materials together for winterization.

Some Questions.

1. I have 2 carbed 7.4l motors that are fresh water cooled. IF I drain the engines by pulling plugs, about how much pink stuff in gallons may I need?

2. I have been running ethanol fuel with the starton additive to stabilize it. Should I use another dose of something over winter lay-up? Like sta-bil?

3. To drain and winterize westerbeke genie, Is it the same drain and fill through hoses as engines?

For the rest of my systems (fresh water, Head, Ice maker, AC, drains and thu hulls) am going to blow out and or suck out water first as to not dilute antifreeze that I put in.

Thanks in advance. This site rocks for help!

1. I uses 3-4 gallons per engine... I run fresh water, then drain, then connect my "bucket".
2. I use Stabol, as recommended
3. I have hose connection between the RW valves and strainers... I connect there... Do not attached a hose to your genny with any pressure...

I was contemplating filling through the strainers with a sea flush type device but I don't see how it will get by thermostat?

In your first post you said fresh water cooled. If that's the case you are just putting AF through the heat exchanger and dumping out the exhaust, shouldnt need to get by the tstat

So I could just drain from plugs, then use some sort of sea flush device to fill through the strainers then?

As for the gen, I removed the hose from the strainer, put it in a bottle of AF, crank the gen, and run until it comes out of the thru hull. As for the gas situation, I also use startron. The only thing I will do is double dose it on the last fill up before winter.

Solid advice thanks

I figured I'd just tack on here instead of a new thread, Our power steering coolers are mounted up behind the distributor so theyre pretty high in the loop. I didn't see any drains on them so do we just assume they will drain out with the rest of the water when the block plugs are removed? It's a pain to get to them so I was hoping they are self draining and I don't have to take off the hoses.
