Been chasing this around and have found the after a cold re-learn procedure and leaving the headlight switch to off it has not happened for about 400 miles so far. Most say it`s the TPS but it may not be.
Anybody want to try and confirm this ? Wondering it this is a wiring fault tripping the failure mode.

The dreaded wrench light! I owned a trucking company and I had 22 Ford step van trucks (E450's) when I sold the company. I never had a premature tranny failure on trucks built before 2013. From 2013 though 2017, every single new Ford truck I purchased had premature transmission failure before 35k miles. Other business owners in my field experienced the same failure rates. The problems were all related to the clutch plates. Ford did repair them all under warranty but the repaired units failed in the same way. After 60k miles, Ford would do nothing more even with the admitted problems. The wrench light would come on and failure would be eminent. Some would not even last the rest of the day and some would run for a week, but after that light, they all failed. I don't know the year and model of your vehicle, but I hope this is not your problem. For these reasons, I stopped buying the Fords and will not purchase another. They do have a new 10 speed transmission developed with GM now. Hopefully this problem will not surface in that unit.

So you never went deeper than "there is a wrench light" on? You know the "wrench" is simply an indicator that there is an error code logged, and that error code could be about anything- from a cd stuck in the entertainment unit to a bad ignition coil.

Your post makes no sense. Pull the code and get back to us.

F 150 , 4 x 4 cold relearn clears all stored codes so right now there are none.
Still operating with the DRL off and no problems. Havent had the chance to drive at night so...............
When the icon did appear the truck goes into powertrain failure mode .No real throttle response . Shutting it off and on a few times allows better forward motion but throws a CEL icon but no wrench icon. After about 15 miles CEL goes out and truck acts normal.
Most reported repairs for this problem run from the TPS, the BCM, trans,ECM flash/ replacement but never a code for the lighting system.
Waiting to hear if 2 other have good response with the DRL off.
Found a tech to scan and monitor the system, so will update if anything new.

Did GM ever find a fix for their leaking intake manifold ?
