Anclote Key ??

Looking do a day trip out to the key. What is the best/closest ramp to drop the boat in?? Also while looking at the map it appears that the west side of the Island is the best place to anchor?? Any / all suggestions are welcome.

Anclote park is the closest ramp. Word of caution current can be strong. West side has very pretty beaches. Best approach is on the south and swing wide of the sand bar south of the island heading west far enough to clear the shallow spots before heading north and then back east to beach. Have a great time!

Seminole in Clearwater is a nice ramp, not the closest though. Seminole ramp is about 15 miles south of Anclote. You could stop by Caladesi and Three Rooker on the way up to Anclote. Caladesi has a marina and snack bar on the island. If you go inland on Anclote watch out for mosquitos, they are really bad near the lighthouse.

Mike is right about bugs. Do not go any farther inland than the sand by the water! Trust me on this one.

Thanks for the responses. Looking forward to do something other than the lakes. Will be bring skeeter repellant for sure. I went up Crystal River one time and was attacked by those No-See;ums, it was miserable
