I am looking for a simple and efficient way to store my anchor line in the front anchor / ladder comparment on my 260 Sundeck. I was think of using a simple power cord plastic reel with a free spin center portion. Has anyone found a good solution for storing this line and keeping it from tangling?

thanks

no joy on my end either. being that the dealer was so gratious and gave us a bigger anchor it doesnt even fit in the ladder compartment. So am reduced to storing it under the front seat.

What part does not fit in the compartment?

As far as the rode storage, the 240 and 260SD are the same setup. I've got over 200' plus 10' of chain in mine with no problem.

Anchor line storage: We use the plastic power cord reel you spoke of, and it works great. Minimizes rope burns too. Be sure to tie end of rope to a cleat after removing from storage, or everything could end up at the bottom of the lake!

Anchor storage: We have a 2008 240 SunDeck, and the anchor storage/bow ladder door opens backwards (front to back). It was too hard to use, plus the ladder was in the way. So we use the floor storage in the bow area to store the anchor and rope. It too drains, as the line and anchor are usually still wet when we put them away.

Bow sprayer: Don't forget to use your bow sprayer to minimize debris and dirt from the anchor before bringing it into the boat. Our lake has a muddy/rocky bottom, and the anchor usually comes up very dirty. The bow sprayer really cuts down on dirt being brought into the boat.

Hope his helps. Have a great 2010 season!

it was the anchor itself that wasnt fitting, the line and chain had no problem.

I went with a big anchor than the standard one, so I had to cut about an inch off of the stabilising arms on each side of the anchor. Hope it helps.

how are you rolling it up? The old over the arm and elbow trick? If so thats why you're tangling it twists the rode up while rolling it in... if you will hold it in your hand and just slide out and arms lenth and hand it to the other hand and roll it in that fashion you wont have near the tangle issue... then when wound grab one end of the loop in each hand twist 180 degree's with one hand which will cross the rode in the center take a bunge or my favorite a canopy tarp tie which is a bungie with a ball on the end wrap it and store... you can fold the rode in half at this point (after the half twist) also if your loops are too large for your storage area... just twist and bring your hands together... after 5 or ten times you get the hang of it real quick, one thing is you must reverse the twist when you pull it out if you forget that step and dont reverse how you put it up you'll have some spagetti!

Re: Anchor Rope Storage -- 260 Sundeck/// Box Anchor

Thanks for the replies. Another question: Does anyone have any experience with the box anchor? They have a website: http://www.slideanchor.com/

This looks like it could solve the storage space issue and if performs as advertise, require less line.

While the box anchor looks interesting and yeah if it works as described a great invention... I think it's storage in a bag would just add to your tangling issue unless you incorporate something to stop the line for being a wound mess in a bag... Also I think with putting all that in a bag would make it very large. Out of the bag sotage could be benificial since it folds up but then it's going to be long and narrow. Depending on your storage lockers deminions could cause another issue. I know it wouldn't fit in any of my forward compartments but my boat is smaller than yours. However I do like the flipping capability it has to allow for wind changing direction. My small anchor does something simalar but it would drift much farther before it digs in.

Chuck, thanks for the tip... Fits perfect now.
