Anchor paint

Thats a big anchor! My factory was a 14lb version, so I opted for for the 15.5.

Andrew:
Will you post a photo once the SST anchor is installed? I'd like to do the same and would be interested in seeing yours first, especially since you're now re-thinking the size. Although the 44 lb is the size I would have ordered too.

My only thought now is did I get it too big?

How much longer is the new one? One distance to be concerned about is the distance from the where the shank meets the head to the "point". The other would be the length of the shaft - to make sure it doesn't run into your windlass. You'll have to do some measuring as I'd only be guessing.

The weight won't cause any problems for the windlass.

Do you have access to the boat that you can at least hold it up there?

You might be able to find specs for each anchor on the respective manufacturer's websites.

Thanks, Dennis. I'll take those measurements next time I check on the boat.

Here's a side shot of the current anchor I took yesterday.

Your photos aren't showing. Have you exceeded your CSR limit for attachments? Can you try re-posting - I would really like to see your anchor installed since we have the same boat.

What is everyones thoughts on having the stock anchor chrome plated? Reason I ask is we are in the collision business and our local bumper shop would be able to do this. My concern would be stripping the galvanizing for proper chroming and durability. Our bottom is just soft sand and mud so I wouldn't be to concerned with scratches. And honestly don't often anchor. These stainless ones do look sharp!
Pure old salts pout-new enthusiasts applaud!

Any update on posting a photo of your installed anchor?

Just got home from the marina... Give me a minute to guzzle some vino and I'll hook you up...

Thanks Andrew. I'm following your various upgrades closely since we have the same boat and I am interested in many of the same upgrades (including electronics) you have been doing. Can you give me more specifics on your new SS 316 Anchor - brand and where you bought it? Also with the doubling in weight to 44 pounds are there any issues with the windless? I assume it's the stock windless and you didn't replace it.

Also, my boat came with all chain rode - is yours the same? I'm not sure if all chain was standard for Sea Ray or if the previous owner upgraded it. I think I need more rode (I need to measure it) and am trying to decide between adding more chain or adding line. I'm a little concerned about the added weight, especailly if I add a 44 lb anchor. Thanks.

Larry, check out post #26 in this thread to see where I got it. I haven't used it yet, but have moved it up and down on the windlass (which is the orignal Lofrans Progress). It seems to be just fine so far. In looking at the parts list for my boat, it originally came with a 35 lb anchor, so I doubt the extra 9 lbs should be too much of a burden on the windlass. My boat has the original chain/line rode, which I believe is 25' of 5/16" chain and 200' of 5/8" line.
