We have a 38 foot aft cabin with 200 feet of chain anchor. WH let out 150 most time to anchor and find when you bring it in it piles up in the anchor locker and you have to level the chain by hand. has any one got a solution to get the chain to go in evenly rather than a pile that has to be leveled?

First, sorry for your troubles and sorry again, I don’t have a solution.

However I do thank you for this information. I have about 30’ of chain followed by 3 strand line and was considering going to an all chain rode. The chain portion pays out and comes back better, never jumps off the rollers like the rope. The chain makes more noise but other then that works perfect.

Now that I know it can bind up if I go with all chain I will study this more.

PS: It often helps if you tell us more. What kind of boat? What brand windlass?

Chain Rode

Pehaps you can push the beginning sections back into the deep recesses pf the chain locker in long side to side flakes. This would minimize the pile in the middle under the hawze pipe. I have a similar problem and that is my fix. It's not an issue for me until I have to haul back in over 150 f eet. Try to place more chain in the dead regions of the locker.

We do push it to the side as it comes up, but the admiral feels there has to be a better way. Some sort of chain distributer like a lawn sprinkller.

Rope and chain on the 28 we had was good.

We have a 38 foot with aft cabin and fully enclosed bridge so it gets a bit windy that means lots of chain out.

and add few hundreds pounds on front of your boat what doesn't help to put the boat on plane
