An Oh S*&T Moment - Water In The Bildge

I splashed last week and my impeller seems to be OK as well. My local Searay service guy told me that as long as the water PSI was between 6.5 and 7.5 (or something like that) it should be OK for another year. He did say that I would most likely need to replace it next year.

My next project will be to add a high-water bildge pump in lieu of this issue. Then I will move on to my bow filler cushion or hot water shower idea :)

Good - glad to hear that.

What would you do with your time if you didn't have a boat?

PS: I'm laughing because I understand!

I wouldn't have it any other way! I love working on my boat (even if it is newer and doesn't need it). That is why I perform most of my own maintainance. On my Alpha 1, I even dropped the outdrive and replaced my impeller.

I am also the proud owner of a 1962 Correct Craft Plastic Classic ski boat. This baby needs everything, but it will be a fun project for a couple of winters! Its an inboard 18' with a Grey marine 327 in it w/ velvet drive. Now I just have to figure out where/how to rebuild an obsolete motor and I will be all set :) I can do all the glass work myself (however the hull looks really good). Then I am going to remember how to sew seat covers :)

Another thing to dry out and check is the tilt trim motor. Make sure no water got in the reservoir. My buddy had a simular event happen and he hit the trim with it full of water and caused damage.

Getting stuck in the ER, Oh boy, I have places only angels can get to. I've been so squeezed in to it took inch worm movement to get in to the work area only to find body parts went to sleep, legs cramped and I could not inch worm backwards. One instance of that and I now make several preparations before going where man was not meant to go.

I do not wear pants with belt loops or belts as these can hang up, I drop my tools and parts in to the placed needed in a canvas bag tied to the center of the ER over the engine that way I can pull them all out later and not have to hand to hand them out, I'll take an hour to remove and move out of the way obstructions like batteries, cockpit supports, even my cable master, and when I squirm back in there, I drag a 1/2 line tied off behind me so I have something to pull against as I worm backwards. I put a large bottle of water in with my tools, keep a fan running and try to use cushioning materials to protect from laying in a stringer and cutting off blood flow.

Anyone having changed a Stb impeller on a 460 knows exactly what I mean. a 20 minute job can take three - four hours

If it was a 327 chevy that would be easy.......but I assume its a 327 AMC - try egge machine - they seem to have everything

I never thought of that. I will check it, but the water was not that high. Thanks!

Yes, it's the AMC 327 made in reverse rotation....even more difficult. I will check egge machine. Thx!
