An Investment Thread

Got my butt handed to me today day trading...lol. Got caught in the chop. Will get it back in the next few days...hopefully...lol
I got my ass handed to me and I didn't even make a trade. I am sitting on a shit ton of cash right now that I was anxious to get into play. Maybe I'll just go with CDs.

It can be really difficult to decide when to enter and exit the stock market, so it's wise to be conservative in times of uncertainty. One strategy I've been using lately is to focus more on investments that provide a steady income, such as dividend stocks or fixed income products like bonds. If you're looking for something a bit more advanced, you might want to look into how to build a trading bot. That way you can still benefit from the market without needing to take on as much risk. Best of luck with your investing journey!

no trades for me today. too busy with my job

Well Sleepy Joe sure gave us a crap week. Down +/- 4%. How much more pain is he going to inflict on us?

I lucked out recently and got into AMD at 64 which is now at 119 but totally missed the boat on NVDA. It's down a bit from the peak but still at a P/E of 206 and a price of 399. Did I miss the boat on this one?

NFLX and LLY have been doing well for me. I think LLY still has a huge upside with the upcoming approval of Mounjaro.

I'm spooked with how interest rates are going and the instability an upcoming election brings. - in Feb I moved a percentage into 6 month CD's at 5.6 and today moved some more into 6 month T-bills at 5.69. I'm staying in health and staples like J&J but backing away from oil and tech a bit. My municipals have not panned out but better than the money market.
Also we have completely steered away from mutual fiduciaries/investments that have ESG as a component of their strategy. Annuities appear to be good also but ties funds up too long.

I've owned AMD for a few years now, bought into it when I saw where Intel was going and recently sold all my Intel stock. I'm holding AMD and don't plan to sell it anytime soon. I bought into Amazon and Google for the first time about 6 months ago, up pretty big on both, as always should have bought more. Don't beat yourself up over NVDA, that stuff happens.

I have thought about moving more money into CDs and such given the high interest rates, but so far I haven't.

My longer term holds are AAPL, CAT, SPY, TSLA and QQQ. Bought TSLA at about $110. Also bought leaps. Leaps are far out options contracts. I have Jan 2024 expiration $500 strike. I paid $127 each and sold 1 at about $600 awhile back then bought a few more at $61 a few weeks ago. They are at about $350 now. I have a sell order in at $2000 so will see what happens.
As far as day trading I have been trading futures for the last 8 or 9 months so haven't been day trading and regular stocks or options.

I put pretty much everything, including my IRA, into a managed brokerage account. The account has increased slightly despite all the market losses. Dude is killing the S&P 500 returns. I had a significant amount of cash outside of the brokerage in a money market. We put that into 6 month T bills at 5.46%. Beats the hell out of what the money market was paying.

My two trading accounts are up 20% and 18%. These are both about 50% cash so could have been double if I was all in...lol.

Where was I back on May 24th? NVidia was at $305, and closed today at $427. Crap!

I have been in and out of TSLA calls the past couple of months. Bought initially when it was at about $110/share then sold 1/2 for 600% then added back when it came down to about $150 then sold 1/2 again last week when it was at about $248 for about 350%. I still have 1 contract but it has been a nice ride. After I sold 1/2 the first time the ones I had left were freebies so I'm holding this last one. I paid .61 ($61) and have a sell order in for $20 ($2000). Will see where it goes.

Recently started making my first investments, and it's been quite the adventure. I've had some wins and losses, but overall, it's been a great learning experience. One tool that has been a game-changer for me is a lot size calculator. It's been super handy in figuring out the right position size for my trades. I'd like to know what you experienced folks here think about it. I can't wait to hear about your investment successes too.
