Just wanted to share my experience with American Boat Listings - ablboats.com. Was contacted by them numerous times claiming that they would post my boat electronically to over 50 sites and guaranteed these would come up to the top in internet searches. After I signed up and agreed to the $300 charge, they were never to be heard from again. Multiple emails and phone calls with no response. The only ad ever posted was on their own poorly organized site and never posted any pictures of my boat. Tried to get my money back through credit card dispute but was unable to. I don't know if all companies providing similar services are all scams to cheat people out of there money, but I definitely would not recommend dealing with American Boat Listings.

Thanks for the tip...
Welcome to CSR!

what kind of boat were you listing ???
I looked at the site and it wasn't super but it seemed user friendly enough.
oh yeah...
and usually if They contact You... something isn't quite right.
they must be hurting for listings

1. They sure do have a lot of boats listed.
2. One boat with a pic dated 2002.
3. Most pics came from FSBO.com
4. Any chance you have an 04 260?

If you feel strongly enough about being taken, fire them off a certified letter, (on your law firm's letterhead of course).

I am not disputing your facts but I do not agree with slamming a company or product with your very first post.

Forum etiquette aside, while this may be his first post on CSR, it has significantly more useful content than some of the posts we see from members with 100's of posts.

I called them once, left a message, the guy called me back a few times.Problem is they advertise FREE listings but ask for money right off the bat.

Should he have said "Hello" first? I don't understand what difference it makes whether it is his first post or 100th. It's good information and something to be wary of if you are thinking of selling your boat.

The information may be accurate (lots of details do lend it some credence) but I would rather someone establish a bit of an identity here first.
The poor guy very well have been ripped off and I understand his anger if that's the case.

Quint,
I see your point but, he's figuring he's helping out a bunch of fellows who may get screwed too. How would you have him establish this rapport first? He could post some frivolous information on my winter rendezvous thread as many others have ( myself included) but that wouldn't really establish anything. Meantime one of us could get taken by this site and also lose our $300.00. I take everything I read on the Internet with a grain of salt. I wouldn't put this as gospel but I will do my due diligence if I ever list my boat. The OP may have googled American Boats and stumbled on this site and figured he'd help us out. I , for one, appreciate the post.

Tried to get my money back through credit card dispute but was unable to.

Thanks for the info I would really go back to your credit card company and elevate or appeal this dispute with them, they have an obligation to you not the merchant if they did not provide you with agreed services.

I appreciate people that take the time to post here. In this case the OP may have indeed saved one of us some headaches & hassles. However, after I read the post, I went right to the site in question & made a post of my findings. The OP stayed logged in here for quite a while, without posting any follow up.

I then returned to the site and wondered....... Any chance, any chance at all the guy was posting a link as a form of free press? If he was indeed scammed, I hate it for him & I thank him for the post. But as long as he was logged on to CSR, he could have answered my question.

That is why I asked what boat he posted.
I see nothing suspicious about the site but I am not trying to list on it either... was going to Google the boat bit no answer was provided
if he was really screwed .. I hope he gets his money back.

The OP is putting the same complaint on other forums. That said a quick google search of this company brings up many complaints about sleazy sales tactics, poor results, etc. These complaints are detailed and go back a number of years. Caveat Emptor.

 this is so true, Frank.

I'm very surprised about your reply. Obviously, the OP didn't follow the proper etiquette of introducing himself in few words, but the bottom line is that his first post delivers a simple message where he shares his experience and alerts everyone on this and other forums about his experience. For this we have to give him credit and thank for the alert. You could have been in a situation to pay your $300 and find this out the hard way. But, after reading this thread I bet we'll think twice before giving this company a penny.

On that note, Wellcraft270 thanks for the alert and welcome to CSR.

I too appreciate his post. I look at it like this....he provided the warning to all of us. Whether or not we think it's true because it was his first post is up to each of us to decide. It's kind of like meeting a stranger who makes a comment about something like that. It's up to you to decide if the guy is legit or not.

For me, I say screw the usual Forum etiquette and take what this OP posted as you see fit.

I started my first reply with "I am not disputing your facts" as not to insult the guy. I understand the possible value Of his post. The guy probably got ripped off, however there is always two sides to every story. I noticed his boat details are a little sparse.
If Frank W or Alex starts a thread advising about trouble with a vendor or product I do not question it because they have established a good level of credibility on this forum. It is as simple as that.
Hopefully Wellcraft 270 sticks around and we get to know him and hear more of his story.
