I have a 2002 amberjack with a gas Westerbeke generator 4.0kw (200 hours). The generator seems to be running fairly well, but I have a small gas slick while running. The ac voltage is stable at 120V.

When loading a/c - my a/c compressor turns on it drops the voltage significantly, and has a difficult time turning the compressor on. Mostly trips the breaker, but after a few attempts the compressor is turned on. I'm assuming this is a generator issue as I do not have this problem connected to the grid. Also, the generator does not turn on the battery charger.

My issues are the a/c compressor not turning on, and gas slick in the exhaust. I hope I provided enough background for anyone to help. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

When did you last change the spark plugs?

Check that all your plug wires are firmly seated on the plugs. I had this problem with my 7.0BCG and ultimately traced it back to one loose plug wire. The non-firing cylinder caused gasoline discharge in exhaust, and generator did not run right.

+1
