AM radio reception

I'm not certain what Mercruiser uses today, but years ago that sound you heard was the sound of a spark plug with out a resistor...I thought electronic ignition took care of that. Just tune in something else! BTW, welcome to the board, nice boat too!

AM is so hard to get anyways...I bet if you look behind the radio the antennae is loose or disconnected.
I like talk radio...I hooked up my Sirius and love it..all I want and clear as a bell.

What's AM radio? Sounds like something my great grandpa might have known.

Ok, I admit it. I'm retired, and listen to Rush, Hannity, and Beck. The static is there, even with the engines and generator not running, so it must not be ignition static.

Jeez Guys!!!
Don't be so negative.
Even in Chicago as large of a market as it is, in order to listen to a local feed, ie: the announcers we want to hear, most of the Sports Teams, need AM Radio.

Bears, Sox, Cubs and our soon to be Stanley Cup Winners, Hawks.

I too have a 'whine' when listening to AM.
Still trying to figure it's source out.

Hmm. If you are listening to that much sports on AM radio... have you looked at your wife as the source of the whine?

Best regards,

Try upgrading the antenna. When I looked behind the radio in my previous boat (280da), I found that they had a loose wire acting as the antenna. A quick trip to the local auto parts store for a small whip style antenna solved most of the reception problems. I left it tucked behind the radio, out of site. You could add a proper marine radio antenna for not much cash as well. If mounted to the arch, I'm sure it would work better.

Also, does your favorite am station simulcast on any FM HD radio stations? The local clear channel conservative talk station here also broadcasts the sports station on one of the digital sub channels. Adding an HD radio tuner would not only solve your am reception issue, but sound MUCH better than traditional AM.

I was just using that as an example.
I rarely listen to sports radio.

I do admit to listening to the Hawks if not watching on TV.

Now the Admiral,......she cannot go without listening to her loveable losers, The Cubs!

Dan

Can anyone tell me how to get the tape unstuck in my 8-track player?

Piece of cake! Just push the button called "eject" and it will pop right out. I realize that it's high tech, but it works! If it's still stuck, take the whole unit out of the dashboard of your 66 Mustang and drive over it!!

I was trying to think outside the box.

Never saw an 8-track with an eject button. Usually you just pulled the cartridge out of the player.

yeah, but no Rush or Hannity on Sirius.:smt089:smt089:smt089

Sean Hannity in on Fox on Sirius. He comes on after O'Reilly.

Nope, no Rush or Savage.....yet  Savage was on XM for a little while...he's gone now.

Hey, if you're desperate you can always listen to Howard Stern or America Left

When I bought my 1st 1970 Chevelle, I remember the old AM/AM radio it had. It came optional with the fuzzy dice and the alligator clip with the feathers hanging off of it.
