I have an Alpha One Gen 2 leaking gear oil from this hole.
Does anyone know what failed to leak from this hole?

I believe the carrier seal under the impeller plate will drip there. I'd yank the drive and pressure test the lower (plug the quad seal hole)

The newer style from merc is yellow. Easy fix, do the impeller at the same time

Thank you. I happen to have a complete impeller set as a spare, so this should be a quick fix. Hopefully.

I took the drive off, and that little oring looks to be shot.
I have never done a pressure test, but I'm sure I can do a search and figure it out pretty easily.

I used to test ours once a year and often found small leaks. Usually right around the shift shaft.

I used a plastic T, some rubber hose, a Schraeder valve, a cheap pressure gauge, and an old gear filler attachment. It lets you screw the tester into the top vent screw and apply 10-12 psi into the valve. A well sealed alpha would hold pressure for the entire winter

once you apply pressure make sure you rotate the shafts and “shift” the shift shaft. You won’t always get a leak Id left stationary but it will show up when you start rotating things.
