I know I can get it from the dealer, but I am just looking for about a foot for the transom to the stern drive. I am not ready to change the hose on the engine side.
Does anyone know where to buy it by the foot? I read about fuel lines and hydraulic hose and am confused what to buy. I know the original says fire resistant.

Any ideas? Auto parts stores have lots of hoses, but I have no idea which one is the right kind for gear oil and outdoors/ exposed to salt water.

It is regular 1/4" ID fuel line and sees no pressure, to speak of. The hose outside the engine compartment does not need to be fire resistant, as it sits in water.

Available at any auto parts store.

Be careful when changing, as it is real easy to break off the nipple on the transom fitting, since they are usually plastic (not 100% sure if the same on an Alpha gen 1) . I lucked out because my fitting is brass, not the normal plastic.

Thanks for the input everyone, but I am worried of all the kinds of fuel line. Some are submersible in gasoline, but not rated for under the engine bay. Some are more permeable than others. I would assume I need something that is not permeable because it will be in the water. And the original I think is hydraulic hose, not fuel. I can only find push lock or loc hose in the hydraulic category. But hydraulic is hard to find, and so many ratings..

Any thoughts in this?

Ya Napa has what your looking for or go to your Merc dealer, not rocket science

Do you have a part# for NAPA? All the hoses I check at local parts stores seem inferior or there are no specs.

People say low pressure is fine because there is not pressure in that system, but the high pressure rating I think is to make sure that it is kink free or has a very short 180 degree bend rating (there are very specific reasons that mercruiser uses a higher pressure rating). The high pressure and fire resistant factor I think also makes the hose non permeable, so water will not get in over time. There are ozone ratings and outdoor specs too.

It kind of is rocket science when you look at all the specs on fuel hoses, that is why I am trying to find more detailed answers. There is a reason there are marine rated fuel lines and hoses too.

If you do not know do not post, but just trying to ridicule me for asking is just disrespectful scoflaw. I know I can get a mercruiser hose, but I am just trying to get 1 foot to save money and not the full 5 or 6 feet in the dealer part.

There are a dozen types of fuel hose, just saying any one will due I think is naive. I am pretty sure it is a hydraulic hose and not fuel hose to begin with. I was really hoping that someone knew the dayco part number for the original dayco hose or equivilent (not mercruiser part#). I guess I will call dayco tomorrow.

I forgot doing homework and the right thing isn't cool huh, maybe I should just duct tape the hose I have and not think about it.

Take it easy there hoss. No one is trying to sabotage you.

Perhaps you ought to listen to those trying to help you, using their multiple years of experience in the marine field.

If you don't want to listen, then just order from Mercruiser, then. No biggie and personally, don't really care what you do. You asked a question, a couple of folks tried to help you

The hose outside the boat is NOT hydraulic hose , nor is it rocket science..... Just changed mine last week between the gimbal and drive while rebuilding the entire gimbal assy.. The mercruiser hose that came off was oil resistant 1/4" ID fuel line.

Sabotage? You ought to listen? Those are not the facts I am looking for. I bet you do this a lot. Chime in tell people they are ungrateful and I should listen to all the years of experience people are nice enough to offer.. You are trying to make me look bad. Why? I took the comments with great thanks, but the specifics I am looking for are not there.

Using ridicule to try and bolster yourself is just a sign of your lack of intelligence. I am done here.

Thank you to ESPOS4. The other two are just bullies and are ruining the experience here.. STAY OUT OF THREADS YOU DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWERS TO.

Do what I say! Listen to me! HAH. What a terrible experience, admins should prevent people like you 2 from using the forum here.

97, you're relatively new here so you may not know it but those guys know what they're talking about. They were basically just "cutting to the chase" to make it easy for you (and they are correct, too, by the way). You can do all the internet research you want, but often times that just starts spinning your head around and around. Sometimes it's best to NOT overthink things - especially when it comes to something as simple and basic as this. Yes, it may not seem simple and basic to you, but for those of us that have been around this stuff for a long, long time - it is exactly that... simple.

Again, they were just trying to make things easy for you and get right to the point of what you could buy.

Anyone who cares: One acceptable hose type for the stern-drive oil supply line that you might find local or can reference to your local shop that sells hydraulic hoses.
Parker PUSH-ON B704 this is what quicksilver is using.

Yeah ok I understand boat guys think they know everything I am learning that. I like to learn things and verify them as well. Do not confuse me being polite to the idiots as inexperienced.
This hose is ABSOLUTELY a HYDRAULIC hose. MSHA rating stamped on the hose is the give away. Also push lock implies hydraulic.
STOP spreading BS around the internet. I probably have more experience (and deffinately brains) than the people who commented put together. Just because I am new does not mean I am not experienced capable and logical in my approach.

Anyone reading this BEWARE of ARROGANT forum members who act like they know what they are talking about. The outdrive oil supply line is HYDRAULIC HOSE. If you can source some locally PUSH-ON B704 is what quicksilver is using.

WOW you guys are so arrogant and full of yourselves you think everyone else is wrong if they do not trust your ignorant nonsensical thinking.

Thanks for the laugh too. Why are all the boat forums filled with ignorant arrogant self rightous fools?? I think I know but I do not want to comment... Get an education guys stop thinking that one thing equals another or everything. Clearly there are a lot of different types of hoses and specs and YES they do matter. Sometimes when fools in forums are our leaders we need to over think things.. Came here for help and WOW..... Thanks for reassureing me that we are living in an idiocracy.

I don’t understand what you are looking for? Are you trying to save $10 on a hose maybe $20 if you really cheap out?

Read post #4, buy the OEM Mercruiser hose and quit worrying.

I'm looking for the line myself. My original line is a Dayco Eastman B704 1/4" ID 300 psi. That is inplace for a reason. Did you find this line anywhere?

These guy on here know more than I ever will and if they said use 1/4 inch fuel line that's what I would do. If gas doesn't permiate it I know oil won't

The reason is... because that's what they had available. Plain and simple. Don't overthink it :)
