Pulled the boat today, 98 290 twin alpha. The transom assemblies were new last year on both, I'm looking for grease zerks for hinge pins and the gimbal bearing...nowhere to be found. Do newer ones not have them? I'm pulling the drives this weekend for annual maintenance so I'm sure it will be clearer then, just wondering if I'm looking in the right place.

If you had the transom assembly's replaced they probably used a sealed gimble bearing.

Thanks, it was done pre purchase by the dealer but I'll dig up the work order and check the part numbers. Is it obvious if it's a sealed bearing once I pull the drive?

Should be a zerk on both sides for the hinge pins and one more for the gimball. Maybe a couple on the U joints inside too.

I thought so too, nothing to be found. I even turned them side to side. Ill have to search google for a picture maybe Im just blind

have you considered installing the missing top grease fitting

That makes sense to add, I'll just have to gear up enough courage to drill into our brand new transom assemblies.

I do it on all the drives I service now. just have to be gentle when drilling and watch the chips
