Hello,,I am a new owner of my 88 Pachanga 22 and I want to replace the complete water pump in the lower unit this spring..I have found different kits available, but I will only use OEM parts.

The main part # I have found is 46-96148,,some have a Q8,A8 etc. after this #..Can anyone help me with finding the correct # and what are the differences in the final 2 digits??

Thanks to anyone that replies!!!!

Welcome aboard, hope this helps: http://www.mercstuff.com/

I know I have a Alpha 1 Gen 1 outdrive,,,i just found out that the difference between Q8 and A8 is just a revision to the part..Now I have to find which is the Newest version and a kit that includes the pump base also..I love when all these companies keep changing part #'s

I may have to call Mercury tomorrow and see what they come up with.

Just found a article saying the 46-96148Q8 is the Newest version of the kit that does Not include the base.. The pump base kit newest version is 46-44292A3..
I am going to call Mercury to confirm this info!!!

We had a 1986 with the Alpha 1 Gen 1 and I replaced the pump last spring including the housing using OEM parts. I asked the same question about the Q and the A. What I was told was the Q was the Quiksilver version and the A was the Mercruiser. I used the Quiksilver

Thanks boatman37,,after hearing that I started looking around for info on what you said,,i found that you are correct and it is mostly done because of marketing. Most parts will be the same ,but some may have a small difference,Thanks Again
