I'm having trouble finding good & fair repair sources on Lake Allatoona. I thought that I would start this thread to see if we can build a repair resource base.

For example, I had the clutch cone assembly go bad on my outdrive. I was referred to Robt. Drummond. He quoted me an estimate of $3,200 to repair the drive. It is an $1,100 job, at best. Since I have a 20 yr old drive, I said the heck with all of you and bought a new Bravo I for $3,500. I wouldn't give Drummond a dime.

Another one is Mobile Car Upholstery. They are overpriced and do poor work. I had them give me an estimate on re-doing my cabin (labor only). Their quote was $1,750. I took the work to the people that did our deck furniture - $850 and the work is excellent. But, you have to take the upholstery out of your boat and take it to them. It is worth it, they do great work. Mickey Cohran - 770 475-0097.(Alpharetta). A resource for outdoor material (fabric, not vinyl) is my wife, she is an interior designer. PM me if you need help in that area.

For Alternators, generators, starter re-builds, I can recommend BP Rebuilders 770 427-5938 (Marietta).

For A/C, ice makers, etc. - Coastal Marine Services 706 387 0210. But, I noticed that he had a Jackson Co. tag on the truck, so, you are going to pay him to ride. I think Jackson Co. is up above Lake Lanier.

That's about it for me. I don't know who to call for GenSet repairs, outdrive repairs, gelcoat repairs, bottom paint, canvas work, etc.

If you have some resources, please post.

Great thread!

Canvas Tom Reed (678) 949-6027 (did WOW work, reasonably I thought on our camper canvas).

Marine Electronics Justin at AVC 678.409.9349

Surveyor Michael Griffin 6789778844

Gel Coat Repair: Mike Spencer 678 516-7850

Mechanic: Gary at Victoria Marina: 770 926 7718

I have had good luck with Ga. Boat Sales @ Holiday Marina. They can do almost everything and usally get right on it. Give Josh a call @ 770-974-2575. Ken Hill is the mechanic @ 770-873-7590.

This is a great thread. This is exactly what I was looking for when I had A/C issues.
As it turns out, Windjammer came over and we troubleshot the system and concluded the compressor was bad. I already have another one on the way.
I printed out this entire thread and will use same to get further issues ironed out.
Thanks,
Sundancer Pilot

A dockmate gave me a lead on a generator repairman:

Eddie Aldridge - 770 427-0869

Eddie works for Three-Way Campers on Cobb Pkwy, and does marine generator repairs on the side. I have not used him, I just got the referral.

I talked to Gary Sewell yesterday morning. He says that the marina owners have given him 15 days to either come on with them as maintenance supervisor for Victoria and Harbour Town or pack up and leave. They are not re-newing his lease and instead taking over the service themselves. Gary just spent a bunch of money on winterization advertising and inventory. He says that he is trying to get them to hold off the transition to Dec. 31. But, to me, it doesn't look like he has a bargaining chip. The marina owners don't seem to care. These same people own Park Marina, a marina on Lanier and one at Lake Monroe in Indiana.

I hate to see this, Gary has been at Victoria for 20 years and has been a good mechanic. He has always treated me right.

Also, the manager at Victoria, Paul is being transferred to the marina at Lake Monroe. I say, goodbye, go p#ss off the Hoosiers.

Sounds like the marina owners' think they can generate more profits from handling this themselves. Bet the hourly labor rates take a jump and don't be suprised to see some clauses added to your slip rental agreement that will severely limit what type of maintenance/repairs you can either do yourself or having someone not employed by the marina work on your boat..

I have used Mark Vesper of Vesper marine svcs for years. $65 hourly rate and 1 hour trip fee. An honest guy and he is very thorough. 678-557-4468. He does both Alatoona and Lanier. Everything from simple maintenance to engine replacement.

Ditto on George from Coastal, he is the only guy around for Marine AC and refrigeration.

Robbie's Marine Svc- is who 99% of service yards and dealers sub their work to for Marine Head sytems- he's busy but does a good job- 770-271-2470.

Trailer Work: A&F Trailer Mfg., 1155 Belles Ferry Rd. 770-420-9194. They mfg utility trailers, but, I take my boat trailer to them before we take it to Canada. They have the bearings and seals and appear to be happy to have the extra work.

Any word on if Gary stayed on with Park? He's done several repairs for me as well, treated me fairly, and I was pleased with his work. Fair pricing. I too hate to see this happen, will not be surprised if labor rates do in fact go up.

He stayed on at Victoria, but, now works for the marina owners. And, yes the rates are now going to be what the marina wants which is higher. I know that the winterization rates about doubled. Changeover was effective 12/31. He really had no choice.

Has anyone here used 'Ahoy Marine' at Allatoona Landing for repairs or maintenance?

Thanks in advance!

Tanker - have used Ahoy for the past 4 years to service our runabout (I/O). Satisfied with quality of work and pricing seemed fair to me - especially compared to what JOA used to charge.

Windjammer, Thanks for the reply. I am new to Allatoona and not familiar with who to go to. Hopefully they can fix my issue quickly and have the boat back before the long weekend.

Had an interesting discussion this afternoon with the manager of Camping World in Woodstock. They are a HUGE RV dealer, service and rental facility. They carry Dometic, Norcold, etc. and he told me they can and will service AC, fridge, generator and waste systems. I have been using 3Way for stuff like that (down near Towne Center Mall), but this might be a more enthusiastic option. FWIW 770.926.6101

New canvas, marine upholstry service.

He moved here from Ill. about 6mos. ago. I had him replace a screen, so, no real experience with quality of his work.

Just had Mike Lance 678-409-8897 do some gelcoat work on the swim platform (mainly because I was too stupid to look at this list first and give the other Mike a call). He was prompt and seems to have done a good job at a relatively reasonable rate (one new 8" gash-don't ask, two previously existing bad repairs about the size of cigarette packs and a couple of nicks from a bastard in a pontoon...$400). He also was pretty enthusiastic about being available for other services.

Does anyone have a connection for a satellite dish installer? I'm moving slips and need to move my dish and have it mounted and oriented on a new dock. Going through DirecTV seems silly.

BTW, another "attaboy" for Downen Uphostery. Took apart a seat for me (I took it to him), lots of staples and stuff, restiched some torn seams, repaired it, returned it...$60.
