All flocked up!

My bill says flocking as well. Just ordered a piece to do the aft cabin window and the girl on the phone called it flocking.

I need to replace mine on my boat, never been done before. Who did you call to order it? Also do you have the number? I also need the piece that goes up and down wonder if they sell that also but not sure about that name.

Anyone know how many feet to do the 2 side windows and the aft window.
If I'm going to be a dock queen this year I might as well do as many projects as I can.

Call Taylor Made Systems in NY at 518-773-0636, the part number for the flocking is 3507040. It comes in 9 foot lengths, you will need four sections for the side windows and one for the aft cabin window.
This stuff isn't cheap, but it is an exact fit and is easy to install (provided a PO hasn't loaded up the channel with caulk). I was lucky, no caulk and both windows done in about 2.5-3 hours.

Be sure to drill a weep hole in the back of the channel, you will know where when you see the buildup of crud. I drilled straight thru to the bottom of the window frame so you can't see the hole. I think this will help prevent the channel from loading up with water during a heavy rain and overflowing the little "dam" inside the frame, at least I hope so. Don't forget to cut slots in the flocking behind the weep slots in the aluminum window frame. Don't get carried away and make them too big, or the stuff could sag. This may sound complicated, but once you see it you will understand, its not really very tough. The worst part was trying to get the old lower sections out, they were hard and brittle as a beer pretzel. I actually had to use a thin screwdriver and a small hammer to break it up enough to get it out of the track. The upper pieces are easier, they didn't get so much UV and were much more supple.
I did the bottom first and then was able to drop the window down and lift it out of the track. You will probablly have to cut the flocking into two sections to install it, the old should give you a good idea of where to do that.
A little WD-40 on a rag wiped into the track and onto the flocking will make sliding it into the pointy corners of the track much easier.
Have fun!

For that fuzzy piece, ask them while you are ordering the flocking, I'm sure they will know what it is and most likely have it as well. They were a great help, I told them the year and model of boat and they told me the part number and how much was needed to do the job. I have a seal coming to do my foreward hatch, same deal, gave them the info and they told me what and how much to get.

Thank you

I will call them Monday morning.

Call them at the number above and they will sell it to you, they sold it to me and everyone else thats done this job on this board so far. I can't see why they would make it a dealer only item, after all, we're talking about parts for a 20+ year old boat.

I worked on the flocking today on my 30' weekender. It took me about 10 min to take apart the port side window. After looking very closely I discovered that the main window needs resealed. With the design of the window I don't think the flocking alone would make it leak. If you are replacing your flocking check to make sure the seal on the inside window is good. Im going to buy some 3m window weld and reset the inside window. I had to do this with the glass in my hatches also. I also did notice that the original flocking had a wedge cut out of the inside about every foot for drainage.

this job is next up for me! I need to get it done before the rains hit the Northwest

I did my flock this year. It didn't really do much to help the leak though. I did cut weep holes in it and they are working. On my windows, however, water collects in the inside track where the screen slides. One it overflows, water intrudes. I am not sure, but I think it is coming from the weather stripping seal around the non-moving windows. Is this consistent with others' findings? What is the fix?

Does anyone know if you can still get the plastic weep hole covers from Taylor? Two of mine got brittle and did not withstand clumsy deckhands and their wayward feet. I wonder if they actually do anything besides a cosmetic effect.

I can say oncw the windshield was rebedded my port side window stopped leaking.I get a drop or two in a storm from the tracks though even after removeal and re beddingand flocking and butyl tape replacement.

the butyl and my non moving windows is bad, I suspect that's where my leak is coming from. If you go look at it from the outside you can push the window in a little bit and see where its not sealed.

buy some 3m strip caulk butyl and stuff it in with a paint stick end(quick and easy),Or remove the whole thing and clean up everything and rebed (sucks ,takes two people and a lot of time energy and money) dont ask me how i know.

I drilled a small hole in the bottom track at the extreme aft end of each window frame. Its the lowest point and water will build up there in a heavy rain and move forward and come in over the little plexi dam. The hole lets out water that makes it past the weep slots. My windows are nice and dry now.

There is a place over in holland mi that sells the weep slot covers,I will dig up my invoice .I do have 4 in decent shape though if you want them.I live in flushing but her son is coming home to warren saturday from 6 weeks training for new job in the air force so we may get down there in 2 weeks. He wont get home untill late saturday and hell be tired and want time to see his wife, and her kids.

Searayman13 on ebay had them recently. I got all new ones for my boat since the UV seems to have made the original ones brittle.

I'll buy them off of you if you can get them in a couple weeks. Otherwise I might check out searayman.

I had this idea too. Glad to know it works. You drilled the hole from the outside in and stopped before you got to the innermost track, right? The only thing that I thought might flock up the whole system is listing. I imagine it would only work on the listward side.

I drilled down from inside the track that way the hole is at lowest point and you can't see it without standing on your head. Never had a problem with listing.
