Tomorrow (July 11th) Alexandria will be having fireworks to celebrate the city's birthday. http://alexandriava.gov//uploadedFiles/recreation/WebBoxes/CityBirthdayFlyer.pdf

We are thinking of taking the trip up before sunset and then doing our first night cruise back home afterwards. Anyone else here planning on being on the water for the show?

We will cross off night cruise and possibly night on the hook depending on if we go home or to mattawoman. The deciding factor will be looking to see how much debris we find in the water during the day tomorrow.

River up here has been a bit of a mess with all of the rain. Have you thought of maybe staying the night at one of the marinas up here?

I haven't. Got any recommendations?

Alexandria City dock has some transient slips. It's walking distance to countless restaurants and bars. Plus the shops. It will be a good view of the fireworks.

National Harbor is nice, but expensive. Docks are great, but they charge for a minimum of 40' if I recall.

I'm at James Creek. Not a bad marina, just not in the best neighborhood if you want to wander into town. Columbia Island is also nice.

The SW Waterfont is a mess right now with the construction, but when that's done that will be a great destination.

I was looking at Alexandria city but it appears I need to reserve online. Are you on the boat this weekend? If we venture up there we may stop in at James river and meet you.

We are going out today around noon. We're going to anchor up near Roosevelet Island. We'll be back at the marina around 5-530. We're on B dock.

James Creeks marina office opens around 9a. They can tell you if they have slips.
Alexandria does have a dockmaster. You may be able to call.

I have stayed at Alexandria several times. Fill out the online paperwork to register your boat with the marina, then call the dockmaster. Registering the boat with them is a one time thing, if I recall correctly.
