Went to visit my good friend Doug from Alexandria Marine and he took me to see the boats they build at the Alexandria Seaport. They are a terrific group and a wealth of knowledge.

This whaling boat is headed up to Connecticut soon to join with its mother ship.

This is a Potomac river dory. It's circa 1900 reproduction and was an oyster boat. I asked about the vertical entry and they told me that was common until the 1930's

Here's some more.

The kit for this is $800 and it takes about 20 hours to build.

These masts are hollow and made like a long skinny barrel.

Here's another project they made.

Wooden boats and the history they represent are really cool. I wouldn't want to own one though, my Sea Ray is perfect for me.

Then there's this cool 1950's mercury clock Doug has. He isn't giving it up though.

Been there, seen that. They are terrific organization.
