Anybody done any cruising on the Alabama and Mobile River systems in AL? Since it's starting to get cold, having to look south for new rivers to explore? :smt100

Thought I would bump the thread to see if anybody has info on it again.

Thanks, but no thanks on the 32 and snow (Grin)
Are the leaves changing in the Guntersville area yet? I was hoping to make it to the TN river before one more time before the end of the season.

No, but.......when we resided on Bay Springs Lake in North Mississippi we had a lot of transient boaters pass through. The lake is the northernmost lake on the Tennessee Tombigbee waterway, about 40 miles South of Picwick, Tennessee River. Anyway, lots of people use this waterway to travel from the North (Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, etc.) to the Gulf Coast vis the waterway, Alabama River, Mobile Bay.

During the Spring lots of folks that winter their boats on the Coast return to the North. And, around this time of year, everrybody's travelling South. Some pilot their own boats, and some hire captains. Needless to say, you meet lots of interesting people.

The only treacherous water I've heard of is Mobile Bay. I've met several boaters that had fouled their props on pieces of rope floating in the bay. The Bay has a sailing channel, but other than that it's pretty shallow.

Chuck,

Just stick with the Apalachicola and its estuary near the coast. It is some of the most pristine water and beautiful boating area you'll ever see un the U.S.

Thanks Frank & Southpaw.
Since I'm dreaming about river boating a neat trip would be to put in at Montgomery go down the Alabama through Mobile bay around the coast via the ICWW to Apalachicola, up the Apalachicola and Chattahoochee River ending in Columbus, Ga. Heck it would only be 75miles from where I started in Montgomery.
