I don't have any records that my AirSeps were ever replaced. I had them cleaned as part of the major scheduled maintenance service. However I'm thinking that perhaps assuming that they were never replaced it might make sense to get new set instead of cleaning the old one. BTW, they looked very clean.

What you guys think?

If they look in good shape and aren't damages and have been cleaned and oiled, no need to replace them.

Mike,

What would be a normal lifespan of one set before they're due for replacement?

I changed my internal filters at 665 hours and according to the technician they were more than ready. External air filters I vacuum clean annually and have only cleaned and oiled once (two years ago). They don't collect much dirt if you keep your ER clean.
CCE AIRSEP units 2001- Present
CCE AIRSEP units are best identified as units without using air filter springs, and have a v-band clamp where the air filter meets the AIRSEP body. These units are serviceable, and are equipped with a disposable internal filter set. These internal filters are removable and should be replaced every 500-750 hours. They CANNOT be cleaned. See CCE service instructions for the unit you have listed in the "TECH" section of the Walker Website.
Air filters on the CCE AIRSEP can and should be cleaned using Walker air filter cleaning kit(s); DDF9000 for standard red filters, and BAF2000 for Walker Blue filters.

+1, I was told they can easily be cleaned and re-oiled 3 or 4 times before needing a replacement and that was from Walker, so they may be able to go longer.

So what about the pre-2001 AirSeps? I have them on my boat and they look pretty good. No dirt or dust on them at all. They look like a similar material to the K&N filters I put on my truck. Can I use a K&N Cleaning Kit to clean the AirSeps?

yes, use the K&N cleaning kit to clean them.

I'm going on 4 years with my filters and they still look good, clean up, and take the oil, so I keep using them.

Walkers are made by K&N but they are proprietary and cannot by bought from K&N directly ( I tried )

I removed the filters from my 13yr old engines, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was the first time. The starboard side looks very clean, maybe slightly discolored. The port side has a lot of human hair stuck in the folds....wondering if the forward head exhaust fan tube has a leak of some kind that is allowing hair to make its way back to the engine compartment!!! :) Since they are originals, I ordered new, rather than cleaning and will start an annual inspection. The inside of the AirSeps are spotless.

I bet your wot rpms will shoot up if this is the first time you have clean filters on.

Likely. The air restriction indicators had not moved to any measureable degree of restriction. However, I've never seen one of those air restriction gauges that actually works...by the time you'd be in the 'red', the engine would be so starved for air it wouldn't run, period.
