Im installing a pair of Garmin plotters, new autopilot, and GSD24 network sounder on a 2007 40 Sundancer. I purchased a tilted element Airmar B60 thru-hull transducer, and am just looking for advice as to where to install in the hull. Id like it to work as reliably as possible, and hopefully maintain bottom and depth while on plane as well. Im considering putting it between stringers in the engine room below the v-drive transmission or there is also quite a bit of room in the cabin below the floor, but Im concerned about getting too far forward. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I would recommend engine room under tranny.

Just remember to use a 4200 sealant rather than the 5200. They do fail sometimes and the 4200 is removable where the 5200 is designed to be permanent. Both are suitable for below the water line.

Yep agree with the position as per Craig's pic. Next to or in front of the tranny if possible rather than under it for better access. Also easier to route the 'ducer cable to the helm compared to under the cabin floor.

Make sure there are no intake structures or other hardware around the proposed installation point which will disturb or cavitate the water flow over the sensor. the B60 is non-retractable, consequently, access to it is not really required except to install. Best to install where there is no coring in the hull however if there is coring there are good processes to prepare the coring. Are you "stuck" with the B60? There are other transducers that can give so much more data; the GSD24 is being underutilized with the B60.....

Thanks for the replies. Im not "stuck" with it, but its usage will be so light Im just not sure it makes sense to pay double or triple for functionality I probably wont need. Do you have anything specific another unit would provide considering 100% of my boating is in a freshwater lake with max depth of around 100'.

It's a good 600W transducer. If you wanted to see detailed bottom structure and big into fishing I would move to a Downvu / Sidevu or even Panoptics but you will be good with the B60 for general bottom profiling and depth.
