When attempting to run the air conditioner it gives me an HP reading after running for a few minutes. It running water through the system and blows cold but after recycling a couple of times is shuts down. A mechanic says it probably needs Freon however it uses R22 and they will no longer put it in. Has anyone dealt with this issue?

You have poor water flow, probably growth in the water line. Start with cleaning out the strainer basket, and you may need to blow out the water line as well. There's already been a few threads on here discussing the procedure.

The mechanic doesn't know what he is talking about (surprise).

The water flow seems very strong and a full stream.

Do you have 2 units and one pump? If so, on your boat you have a “switch” which triggers the pump on when that AC starts. If the switch is bad, the pump doesn’t come on and you get the HP warning.

When both AC’s are working there is water flow. If one AC kicks off ( the one that has a good switch) then the pump goes off and the other AC will stop and give the HP.

Turn on both AC’s. Check both are operating normally. Then shut one off and go check pump flow. If the pump stops, it’s the switch.

The last switch I bought was like $60 and an hour to change. Fixed my problem.

If you have only one unit, I would still clean the strainer and lines. At least that eliminates that if you still have the same problem.

His sig. says 99 310, probably 1 unit but I'm not sure.

once a season i drop a chlorine tablet from a pool into the ac strainer and let it clear out the system, works pretty good
