Air Conditioner for a 270

I paid ~$2,000 installed for a 10K unit in my Regal in 2005. The most important thing about marine HVAC is the same as a home HVAC. Do NOT undersize the unit. You will never get the humidity out and the boat will only marginally cool. More importantly, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT succumb to oversizing the unit. It will cycle so often it too will not get the humidity out and it will never get the boat cool.

Here is the site I used prior to choosing my A/C.

Regal factory equipped the 2465 with a 5K unit and got a TON of complaints about the lack of performance. Using the link above, I determined the best size for my boat was a 7.5K unit. The industry did not make the 7.5K at the time, so I went with a 10K unit (the next available size). It kept the boat at a very comfortable 75* in 100* summer heat.

The job itself is not hard at all. I just had a tough time drilling a hole in the hull.

Good luck. You will enjoy it.

Installation is not that complicated. Just time consuming. Probably the most unnerving thing, is drilling a hole in the bottom of your boat to install the water pickup valve.:)

I installed a Marine Air Unit on my 94 270, worked out well but it's a big job. I do all my own work but not sure I would undertake that one again. In short the toughest part was running the duct from the unit in the mid cabin cabinet up to the forward starboard bulkhead wall. Used a 6" hole-saw on 1/2" angle drill for first hole out of the mid-cabin, tough, then through the bathroom liner, 5" hole-saw, then through the front hanging closet to outlet in the bulkhead. Make sure you or they install a 5" duct up to the front cabin or else the unit will freeze up because a 4" is too restrictive. Plumbing isn't too bad, the unit condensation drain has to come back to the bilge, thru hull sounds bad but not really a big deal, 3m 5200 for that, ballcock valve and sea strainer. You will be drilling a hole in the side of the boat also for the discharge, will be above the waterline. Electrical, need 4 wire for proper bonding if you don't understand bonding read up on it if doing yourself, very important. Also wire needs to be silver tinned to protect against corrosion. Good luck, AC is a wonderful thing.
