Was wondering if anyone had to bleed out the air from the coolant side of a Kohler 5e. Apparently, some of the older models, obviously 2004 being one of them, are hard to bleed the air out of the coolant side. Wondering if anyone has a method for doing so as my gen overheats after 5 minutes or so and I think there is an air pockets someplace in the system, coolant doesn't seem to be circulating. Thanks for the help.

I have an '02 5E. There is a bleeder screw on the top of the heat exchanger. I loose it a bit to let some bubbles escape, then tighten it down. I've not had any issues

I have a relatively new 5E ('08 340DA) and experience "vapor lock" upon bringing it out of winterization. Dealer/Master Mechanic said that is pretty standard and will occur almost everytime unless you bleed it (as highlighted above). After that, you shouldn't get vapor lock or need to bleed (in my view). Anybody else have different experiences???

Are you talking about the 18" pipe thread screw located on top of the unit on the opposite side from the pressure cap?

I have attempted to bleed air from that but doesn't seem to do much. I will try again though. I will also try and post pictures next time.

And to bleed, remove screw, fill with coolant, replace screw or is there another method to ensure all air has been bleed out?
