Hey Guys,

New to the boating scene and am loving it.
Trying to do minor upgrades to my boat...The steering wheel being the first. Looking for a wood steering wheel to match the wood grain ion the instrument panel.
I did a bunch of research but still need the expert advice of the forum.

Found this on eBay as my cheapest option.
14" Wood Mahogany Boat steering wheel W/ Adapter 3 spoke boats 3/4" tapered key

Plan on installing it myself and Just want to be sure before buying it. Will this steering wheel work? And if so, willit be plug and play?

Thanks
M

It should fit as long as your boat has the 3/4 tapered key (my 2004 did). Your new wheel has 5 allen bolts instead of 6 which is more common, but as long as the wheel fits/bolts to the adapter then it will work fine.

Since you have to replace the hub, get a decent 3-jaw puller. Your old hub might come off easily, or it could be quite the ordeal. In my case the center nut came off easily but then I needed the puller to get the old hub off the steering shaft. This is where you're better off with a bigger/stronger puller than trying to fight with a smaller one.

I had a few pullers at home, but there was very little space between the back of the hub and the bellows or whatever that's called as part of the tilt steering. So it took a puller that had a thin/flat part at the end of the jaws. I'm not sure if your setup is like that but it could be an issue.

You might want to spray some PB Blaster or equivalent on the end of the shaft after you take off the old wheel and remove the nut, and let it sit before you try to pull the hub.

I would have re-used the old hub if I could: the bolt spacing was the same but the threads were different. This is the old wheel with the center part removed:

Just to give you an idea of what I meant, this type of jaw would not work for me:

But something like this would work:

New wheel came in. Going to be my first upgrade on the boat. pics don’t do it justice.
hopefully installation is a breeze given the guidelines I have received on here.
