View attachment 52349 View attachment 52349 At the end of the season I thought I needed a new rear EIM. Apparently these are discontinued and no longer available from Searay. I ordered one and paid dearly for it, but was able to resolve my issue without replacing the EIM. I now have a new EIM that I would like to sell. This was ordered for an 04 340 SDA, but fits several other models as well. The original part number was 1718629. Apparently that number was superseded with #1846566. I have $800 into this and will sell for that plus shipping. I have been told that the prices on these will continue to rise as they are no longer available and at this time, the only alternative is to rewire a large portion of the boat.

Can you share what was the problem and then the solution that you remedied? Maybe I also do not need the EIM. :)

Absolutley. If you look in my picture, you can see 3 nuts and 3 studs coming out of one side of the EIM. These are where the main power and ground feed pass through. Once I had a new EIM in hand, I figured I would open the old one up and look for anything obvious. All 3 of the nuts were loose on the back side with the main positive wire so loose that the nut was about to fall off. The EIM requires a security bit to open and is completely sealed with silicone around the entire lid. My EIM had never been open, so the nuts just came loose over time with vibration. Please keep in mind if you try this, you MUST ensure that you completely re-seal the lid. The EIM is ignition protected and if you do not reseal completely, you have just introduced an explosion hazard into your bilge.

Thanks so much for the quick response. I will be checking the connections and make sure to reseal the lid if I am so lucky.

looking for a Rear EIM for a 2004 Searay Sundancer. (Part #1718629 superceded by part #1846566)

was it completely failing or did it work for a little while and then fail? Mine will work fine when I fire her up and after a little while I loose control of my aft EIM. if you let it sit for 4-5 hours with the batts off, they work again. So confused! any help would be awesome!

I have a port side EIM and switch panel for sale. AFT EIM UNIT 1447606 switch panel PN 1606581 S/N 001686.

Gord,
I read in the General Forum a while back there is one of our members who is some type of electronic engineer or something that was looking to borrow an EIM to reverse engineer the coding. He said once he determined the codes, he could repair or build EIM boards for the future since Merc sold the EIM info to some foreign company that is no longer around. Do you recall ever reading that?
